And it's supposed to be about fitness not results, but I like to see us win anyway and I find the results we've had thus far rather disappointing. Sorry, I just do.
would you rather win 5-0 and everyone get ahead of themselves? at least this way davey will give the players somthing to think about.
Its not about trying to win tho`, apparently and if you feel like that you must be a pillock like me. Welcome to the club mate.
it should be about winning, irrespective of circumstance, doubt if aussies, yanks etc pass off 'friendly' games and results as easily as we do
RE: Its not about trying to win tho`, apparently It is about trying, but trying and winning and trying and losing is not the issue at this stage.
I think Madmark has missed the point entirely its the results that are not important. effort is a completely different story
god forbid that i'll ever watch a an nfl game! sure nfl pre season is all about promotion, selling etc, mickey mouse an all that jazz
No I have not missed the point at all. I want to win every game, I dont care if its a friendly or a cup final, if a professional team cant be ready to play against lower teams like York, Glossop etc. then something is wrong. They have only had the same amount of pre-season as us.
if you dont know anything about 'yanks and aussie's then why bother posting about it. Yanks love winning above anything, NFL pre-season games amout to about 20% of their total season but winning doesnt mean anything. Its all about assessing the strengths and weakness of fringe players. which is what our pre-season should be about.
im talking about a mentality, a national psyche, its all about winning in the us and aus, less so here. dont give a crap about american 'sports' personally
But you brought it up that you doubt they pass off the results of friendly games as easily - and then it was pointed out that, infact, they do!
Im sure west brom fans arent saying the same after todays result 2-2 with the shrews... Weve got weve got and lets get behind them..........come on youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu redzzzzz
The argument for preseason being about fitness assessment alone is probably true, at least in most cases. However, the players who were with us last season had a huge confidence problem in away matches... Liverpool being a most welcome exception. In these circumstances perhaps being "totaly outplayed" and "scraping draws" (quoted from our official website) will dent the confidence of those players further? Davey has - in inteviews at least - not shown willingness to tackle mental issues wih the squad. As our fantastic cup run coincided with dropping down the league table like a stone, Davey insisted week-in week-out that the cup run was not a factor. Then at the end of the season he admitted that it had been after all. I just hope he does actually address this sort of thing privately with the players. On the other hand, we do have a stronger squad at least on paper, and Hume will probably contribute much more when he's fitter. I also doubt our team performances are helped by having Letheren as a last line of defence, and this will not be a problem for league matches. The final plus point is that I'd rather be losing friendlies than league games. One thing's for sure, they'll need our support. (england)
