players from the lower leagues and Scotland ?

I hardly watch any football, apart from BFC. I take little notice of any other players. I focus on our players.
So while I can understand how people can know a lot about the Premiership players, players from Spain etc, due to Sky coverage, how do they know how good the lower league players are? Or do they just see them once a year on Sky and decide how good they are based on that?

This is not a trick question, but I would really like to know. thanks.

I rarely know anything about any of the players we sign or have even heard of them. Recently we've signed the likes of Jason Scotland, Marlon Harewood and Liam Lawrence, who I do know, but more often than not I haven't a clue who they are, even if they're from the same division.

When we signed Chris O'Grady I think the web site put up some photos of him training with the squad. I'm looking at these photos trying to spot him but I just couldn't find him. Keith Hill had spoken a lot about Chris O'Grady, so I was aware of him, but because of his surname I'd pictured a white Irish guy and that's who I was looking for on the photos. I had absolutely no idea he was black. It eventually dawned on me and I had to ban myself from the house for being racist.

I don't have Sky either and have little interest in the Premiershit but if I do watch owt it'll be lower league, Scottish or European.

I'm still in contact with a lot of ex fanzine types from when I used to do ours of other clubs and chat/meet up with them fairly regularly. For example meeting up with a couple of lads I know frm Scunny on Saturday going to ask them about Winnall. Until this season be been playing 5-a-side fairly regularly (though I've decided in too fat and old to carry on) against fans of other clubs again drinks before and after often turn to discussions on players.

I guess that's it really for me.

End of the day, football fans know eff all about other players but like to say whether they are good bad or indifferent.
It does grind my gears a bit too

Can't speak for anyone else, mate, but I see a lot of Scottish football on BBC Alba & BT Sports.

I watch the highlights of the SPL every week, very few live games though if I'm honest. So I've no idea how good Hemmings is for example as he played in the division below. But I've seen plenty of Gary Mackay-Steven, but only via highlights, the odd live game and of course his many appearances on showboat on Soccer AM.

I watch the FLS every week, and live games depending on who's laiking. I've got friends who follow clubs in the lower leagues, tagged along to games with them over the years. Never seen a live game featuring Sam Winnall though. Saw him score a lot of goals on the FLS, like, but I wouldn't be able to form much of an opinion on him.
Similar for Hourihane, although I did see the Plymouth vs Pompey game live on the laptop, and he scored. Saw him at Halifax n all. Still can't form a fair opinion of him though. Can't with any player until I've seen em at least 10 to 12 times in a reds shirt. I think that's a fair time-span.

I think though, that people look at Winnall, GMS, Smith at Bristol Rovers etc and see that they've been top performers at their respective clubs and suggest they'd be happy if they're the sort of lads we're aiming to recruit.

Don't see that as owt to grind any gears over.

They read and listen to other peoples opinions and pass them off as their own, its same on here after every away game too, we take 800 away, we lose and every member of this forum moans and groans as though they've actually been and seen it with their own eyes, when in reality they're forming a opinion based on someone else's opinion and interpretations of what they've seen, really what you need to do is take it all with a pinch of salt, until you've seen enough of these players to make your own judgement.
