Yes I know it was a friendly against a team 2 divisions lower than us but after watching that performace we are in big trouble if these are the tactics Hill intends the team to carry out when we kick a ball in anger.

The goalkeeper and the defence for a start were just terrible, and we have zero threat or width going forward and some of the players didn't look fit. The goalie looked a good shot stopper but all other aspects of his game were p*ss poor, weak on crosses and underhit passes to the defence on a few occassions.

Dagnall is superb in training according to Hill but today he was a ghost, a waste of a shirt and a wage, bet he is p*ssing himself that he is playing for our club and stealing a living. He isn't alone though several others also, simply out of their depth.

Hill needs to get that Jacob Butterfield money spent pretty sharp on a big hairy arse centre half straight away.

The tip tap football we constanty tried to play from the goalkeeper outwards just did not work, even against a team 2 divisions lower than us we lost the ball very easily and we simply do not have players who are good enough to play that way. Mido needs 2 stone off him in the next 3 weeks, some neat touches but the bloke is a good 2 stone to big.

Friendlies are just a training exercise and the result didn't matter to me it was how we played, and today we were very poor, hope this was just a flash in the pan, but a team 2 divisions lower than us could have had 6 goals today and at times simply walked through our shop dummys who were in defence..

On a more positive note what a cracking stadium the millers have, think they'll be in the top 3 this season for definate, some of their players looked head and shoulders above ours and that was very worrying.

Nice stadium but jesus christ it's a steep stand. I wouldn't fancy going up there after a few pints.

Defence has been an issue for years - anyone with any knowledge about football can see this! We need a big nasty centre half - someone who can take charge.

Maybe they were told to keep possession? We need to improve in that way, the keeper never kicked the ball out of his hands. Keefs instructed them to play that way.

Aye and it means the wrong players see too much of the ball

a few quick points if i may

    1) hill as already stated that friendlies are all about gettin match fit, thats it and its how it should be, thats the reason why the last friendly i went to was against santos at the beggining of the premiership season

    2) as someone as stated in another thread we were against a team playin in there new stadium for the first time and were probably up for it more than us

    3) from what i can gather we tried a few differnet pairings in defence and midfield and some of the young uns got a run out and some valuable experience, nothing wrong with that imo

to summaris, we may or may not struggle next season, who knows, but lets get the season started before we start throwing the toys out of the pram , eh ?

What is slightly concerning is that you would assume we would be showing the patterns of play we will be using and the only tactic we are trying at the minute is short passing into trouble at the back.

only1kp - no toys out of prams mate - Just Groundhog Day from last season

Why are we playing players that should not be at the club ???

Good in training but Good God when we play in anger.

The defence and the goalkeeper to a man were absolute gash, and that is a huge worry even in a friendly against the Millers, just like the tip tap football from the back tactics, a league 2 club made our defence at times look like a pub team.

I agree with you trying out new styles and systems are great but you can't polish a turd we were very poor with zero threat or creativity going forward..

It was a friendly so I hope it was a one off but too many players playing that poorly is more than a coincidence.

We need championship level players especially at the back.

Lets just hope Hill has plenty of the Buttercup money available to spend. He really should make a sensible proper bid for Gordon Greer that Brighton might actually consider.

I understand everything what has been said, but I don't get why why he played players in the wrong positions. Etuhu in central midfield, and JO'B behind the striker?

Because friendlies are for trying new things? Positions? Formations? Tactics? No?

Yes. But our pattern of play I.e. Bobby McNulty coming short all the time to collect from the keeper and then we play into trouble is exactly what I hoped we'd not be doing. Why do it in friendlies if we don't intend to do it in real games?
