i dont want to hear how we will never get into the premiership! burnley are the same size club as us, get 11,000 a week, and are right up there in the league. Aidy Boothroyd said a few weeks ago 'if i was a realist then we wouldnt be playing Arsenal tommorrow, but i'm not, i'm a dreamer'. I'd love andy to say 'the plan is to stay up this year so we can build and ultimately get into the top flight'. Lack of ambition may be why we cant sign players!!!
With what Ritchie says and reading between the lines, take it with a pinch of salt Don't fuss over nothing Because its all a storm in a tea cup In a nutshell, he is trying to say - with these directors, we ain't going far So its no good crying over spilt milk
I agree mate, same as he shouldn't say ..... ..... we can't win the cup. The fact is we can get there because we have done it already and would have stayed there if we had played as well up to Christmas as we did after Christmas ... and before anybody says "that was then but this is now" I say one word ... Watford ... cos we are as big a club as them or potentially could be. As for the cup I say Millwall, I know they didn't win it but they got to the bloody final and not that long ago and if you get that far you can win it. Reality at the moment is 4th from bottom and we will be very happy but lets not take away the dream that one day we might get our act together properly and actually achieve summat again or there's no point in us bothering to turn up
Quite simply Its a recipie for disaster for a club like ours. Unless we received substantial backing (and I mean the type that would enable us to compete in both the wage and transfer market), we'd end up back where we are now with significant debt. Like last time, only worse, because now everything costs so much more.
I don't want to end up like Sheffield Wednesday. Most clubs in this league, never mind the bottom half of the premiership, make substantial losses and rely on benefactors to pump money in- they're not self sufficient. I want us to succeed, but this is our level.
The arguments about clubs like Charlton being a similar size to us and maintaining their premiership status don't work for me. They were in the prem at the right time, they've made enough money to maintain their squad. If we'd have stayed up there I dare say we'd be in the same position, but we didn't, we nearly went bust, but now we're back on an even keel in the league where we've spent more time than anyone else.
I don't want our club to risk its future for the sake of ambitions of the prem. Ambition for me is staying in the Championship and providing entertainment for our fans.

Exactly Hardly a rallying call to stay away fans or potential / existing players with ambition.
Not doing himself any favours either.

utter poppycock promotion on the cheap.
No intention of spending the tv money hence relegation back to championship with best part of 30m in bank.
hey presto lets have another go.
Its only disaster if you spend more than your income.

Totally agree. AR believes that we are a yoyo club, lower Championship-Division One...from what he has said in the past. Good job Danny Wilson didnt think like that.it would have deprived the club of its best ever year.
Daydream believer We're struggling in the Championship on the cheap. As if we'd get into the prem without massive expenditure.
We'd risk our club's stability. Unless we had someone come in and stump up the millions required to get us there. If that happened- I'd be happy, so long as this benefactor was a reds fan, and not purely in it for the money. Otherwise any money we did make wouldn't be coming the clubs way, in terms of players, wages, facilities etc.
I read an article yesterday that said Newcastle Utd have spent something in the region of £250,000 for EVERY Premiership point they have ever had. And they have won absolutely nothing.
Too much of a risk- I'm happy where we are.

yeah...im still pissed off why bolton are an established prem team when we went up with em years ago!....dont get me started on wigan! saw grimsby on telly last night and thought of the thrashing we got there a couple o years ago....care to swap with them? ups'n'downs o footy!
look at the figures then The championship is a bit risky for our finances isnt it. Look at our side, we arent doing well are we, championship players cost too much for us. I hope we get relegated back to league one, players are cheaper there.
In fact **** it, lets get ourselves down into sunday league and we'll never have to pay a transfer fee again.
Football is about excitement and risk, if you aren't prepared to take the risks and arent ambitious then you might as well shut up shop and quit the business.

Reading?Watford? Did we get there with massive expendature before?
Who said owt abart trying to establish ourselves?
Who said owt abart spending loads of money?
And why is it necessary to spend loads?
Is it not possible to get together a good team that works on a reasonable budget that just might one season do enough to get into the prem?
If you think thats impossible I would hate to have such a negative outlook on life as you have my friend.
