Mawson - oozes confidence and class. If we keep him all season it will be a coup Roberts - powerful in the tackle, a bit raw but will improve as he goes along. One or two great saving tackles and a monster throw Nyatanga - can't remember seeing him play better Holgate looked like he had played right back all his life and, even better, looked like he WANTS to play for us. I know that could be just shop window dressing on his part, but he was my MOTM today (close thing between him and Mawson). Absolutely outstanding performance and a superb back heeled goal. Smith - the enigma on the wing/at left back. You want him to be better, and he will get better. He's only just stepped up from the youth teams so plenty of patience from me with the lad. Couple of good crosses into the box Our midfield - could have ten players in it and all would deserve to be there. But first: Crowley - fantastic touch but a little bit light weight. Once he learns to ride tackles like Scowen does, and toughens up a bit, he will be a cracking player. He's very easy on the eye now, but I fear that Third Division defenders might knock him about a bit. Great signing though. Highlight was that outside of the boot flick to Scowen in the first half - just sublime. Pearson - smooth as silk today and strong with it. Will be a major force for us this season. Scowen - usual all-action display from our little terrier. On the end of several heavy challenges but he just seems to bounce off them Up front, Marley Watkins looked busy without really threatening the goal. He needs to get used to proper football in England. He'll come good. SSW back with a terrific goal although a shocking back pass gave him the chance. He lashed it in though with his right foot. Also had a stinging effort with his left foot before that. Nice to have a two footed centre forward The subs were all effective in their way. Jackson and Wilkinson linked as well as SSW and MW had done earlier. Comedy header from Wilkinson though when he sort of side headed it when well placed Digby looked classy when he came on and looked like he has been playing with some good players lately! Bree and Hourihane didn't have long to make an impression, but didn't do anything wrong. Terrific win against a decent Huddersfield side although you can easily see them struggling this season with that team. Maybe they are not finished rebuilding yet. Great round of applause for Martin Cranie which was good to hear. Then he nearly cut Scowen in two on the touchline with his first touch. Josh got up laughing though so no harm done. Can't wait for this season to start. Be good to beat the team home and away that are already crowned champions according to some. Adkins has his work cut out there I reckon. WE will be fine, maybe even a consistently top six team.
Yes but twenty outstanding performances for us and the big boys will be sniffing around as usual. Another January, another outgoing of talent. Maybe this year we will just say NO.
Pretty much agree with all of that - couple of notes I thought Mawson oozed class too, and the strange thing is he did so without really doing much. Sign of class. Futcher-esque. Roberts looked typical lower league strong, assertive CB ....... but looked beaten too easily by a couple of sharp turns (inc goal). Give him time though. Not sure Digby looked as confident as I would have expected given his recent adventures and still looked to go backwards a bit. I am still firmly in the "give him a run of games" camp though. Crowley could be a crowd fave. Simeon Jackson looks half decent - great effort hit the bar. Some of the link up play and through balls were great early second half (spoilt by a flag-happy lino). Huddersfield looked poor, and I was disappointed at butts - awful attitude, and I have been a defender of him too. Crainie as you say, got a great reception - least he could have done was acknowledged. obviously still peeved at the toast incident. All in all I really enjoyed today, we played some lovely stuff. Just need to be mindful of how bad Town were though.
I'd suspect that with the cash influx from the Stones deal (which will happen), we'll be under no pressure to sell. If someone offers stupid money then take it.
