In particular the reference to the 'aerial challenge' - what challenge? If this had been too players jumping together to compete for the same ball it would be a tragic, tragic accident. It wasn't, there was no 'challenge' Mr Giddings. Hulme was taken out by someone who, with both feet firmly on the ground lifted his elbow, cocked it inwards and thrust it outwards before the ball even arrived. There was no 'challenge' as Hulme didn't get the chance to challenge.
After Hulme is almost sparko Morgan, now unchallenged does a little hop and wins the ball. A ball that Hulme would have challenged him to win, as is his right as a player, if he hadn't been elbowed in the face first.
To my mind the arm was raised, prepared and swung, long before the ball arrived and was indeed back on it's way down when Morgan headed clear.
Radio Sheffield didn't want to hear that though with Mr Giddings insisted that there was a challenge.
Lets get this right, the mans skull was fractured. He had bleeding on his brain, he needed emergency treatment without which there could have been serious implications for this mans life. The last time I came across an injury like that was a claim for someone who had fallen twenty foot off scaffolding. Hulme's injury obviously isn't as serious as that but it takes an enormous amount of force to fracture someones skull and cause bleeding on the brain.
I really hope that Hulme is alright and that in the fullness of time he is able to resume his career. We've not heard anything to suggest that there was any swelling of the brain so hopefully there will be no lasting damage but only time will tell.
In the meantime we've got Macken out, Hulme out, De Silva out for 3 games and a real test of character for the lads. I hope that this adversity breeds togetherness because we're up against it now.
And Chris Morgan? - I'm ashamed that I ever cheered you.
I didn't hear the show But, I would have expected a more experience anchor man than Giddings this evening.
radio Sheff don't have a good 'Anchor man' The P&G show has been going downhill for 2-3 seasons now. Andy Giddens is incompetent, as is Paul Walker,Seth Bennett is biased beyond belief towards the Pikeys. There is no balanced view on the show.
me too The station's condescending attitude towards Barnsley Fc and it's fans was in full force tonight. I don't understand how Giddings can categorically state that there was no intention to injure Hume and then in the same breath state that only Chris Morgan can tell us whether it was intentional or not. Mind you, it is difficult to decipher nonsense. I would have thought the fact that Morgan struck Hume before the ball arrived, the circumstance leading up to the event and the fact that there have been a number of similar incidents of serious misconduct from Chris Morgan would suggest that, on the balance, it is fair to argue that it was intentional. Giddings' actions to simply cut off callers he disagreed with shows his level of intelligence.
Good post and so true. I listened to radio Sheff tonight and Giddings was way out of his depth. The head of sport, who is Paul Walker and who commentated on the game should have introduced the program tonight.
From Sheff Utd Board RE,,Radio Dee Dar and Morgan What gets me is the hypocrisy of Radio Sheffield. When Morgan does things like intentionally kicking players or going into challenges overly strong they laugh about it. "Oh that's typical Morgan. You know you're going to get a whallop playing him." When he received the ban for elbowing Van Persie they brushed it aside as nothing, just typical Morgan. They condoned it and talked about it light heartedly. Now tonight they say he never does stuff like that, he's not that kind of player etc. What exactly is their stance? It's not that clear. Does he or doesn't he do these things? My mate rang up, he was the second to the last caller, he said somethign about Morgan been a good person. but it was a disgrace what he did, then he got cut off. There so biased on there it's unreal.
No good saying this that and the other....AS FANS WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT........... ...........RADIO SHEFFIELD ??????????? Are we going to sit back and moan about their bias toward us by saying that Morgan didn't actually mean to harm Hume OR..........are we going to do something about it ???? i.e. starting from this Saturday
