Do you know how long it's there for? Will be going down London at the end of November, hope it's still there. I'm guessing it will as they said that the last one will be symbolically placed on Remembrance Day.
http://www.dezeen.com/2014/08/04/bl...m=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+dezeen+(Dezeenfeed) They are being added continually to 11th November when the final one will be laid. They are available to purchase at £25 each apparently. A quick aside... Our bathroom faces north, and when nipping in the night, there was a solid vertical beam of light (think it was at Westminster Abbey) perfectly framed in what seemed to be the clearest night sky we've had down here for weeks. Couldn't see the top at all. Quite moving despite the bleary eyes!
It is very impressive, I hope to have a look when I'm back. It has a very contemporary installation feel to it, which is how it should be. Top project.
Given the grotesque TV commemorations of the great war, this is an eloquent - even understated tribute, despite it's grand scale. I've been re-watching this too. Something that affected me greatly as a kid.
They make more money that way. The general public buys the poppies and the money goes to Forces Charities so the Government doesn't have to fork out the cash to look after the victims of War. I am not comfortable about using the dead from WWI to make money. Is that what they died for?
I bought one this evening, get it when the thing is taken to pieces. £25 and £5-95 post https://poppies.hrp.org.uk/buy-a-poppy/
