I read last night that our squad is much better than many clubs in this division

I’ve seen a number of posts on here claiming similar, but have we? How many teams would swap their squad wholesale for ours?

How many teams would want 3 right backs but only 1 left back?

How many teams would want only 2 specialised central defenders, particularly when their injury record is less than impressive?

How many teams would want a right-footed player on the left wing?

How many teams are desperate for the likes of Nicky Wroe, Barry Conlon, Marc Richards?

The word from the club during the summer seemed to suggest that we’d listen to offers for any of our players. How many of our players were sought by other clubs?

How many genuine match winners do we have, who can turn a game with a flash of skill and are currently the envy of every club in the league?

How many of our players would definitely command a starting place in every other team in the division? Reid, Burns, Shuker? They’d get in some teams, but a definite starter in every one?

Is it really such a great squad? Or is Andy Ritchie currently trying to get the best out of what is a very average set of players? Having said that, some of these players are his signings and he did say Shuker was the final piece in the jigsaw.

We only say we have a good team because the club tells us we have. When looked at critically you can easily say that no-one wanted Mr Shuker or Mr McPhail and no one has been beating down the door to get hold of Carbon Colgan Conlon Burns Reid etc etc
