...but exactly what is wrong with the idea that you advertise the job, look at the applicants, interview the shortlist and then appoint the best candidate?!! Perhaps that way you might actually get someone who really wants the job, is probably a cheaper option and, importantly, avoids the potential embarrassment of the club being messed around by people who are hardly in the Mourinho class. Might also help whoever ends up getting the job not ending up with the idea that they were umpteenth choice. I know it's easy to criticise, but if the aim of football was to shoot oneself in the foot this club would be serious Champions League contenders.
in the real world thats how managerial posts are filled........but this is football,a law unto itself.
hindsight is a wonderful thing. the majority supported the SOD approach and were confident it would happen. it backfired. the majority eventually supported the Butcher approach and were reasonably confident. it backfired horribly. and all this has been done to try and respond to fan demand, by the way. i agree with you though, we just need to pick the best man from the list of applicants now. and in private. personally speaking, the next thing i want to hear now, is when a manager is announced.
Yet it's what John Ryan reckons Donny are doing; although I agree it might not actually be the case. I do wonder whether it's not slightly perverse that we will push the boat out to try and nick someone else's manager, but when it comes to players we don't seem to be able to compete.
This has happened in the past and the fans have moaned that the club has shown zero ambition by not going after someone better. Can't win.
because the people applying have failed at there last job that's why there not working at the moment,
According to donny's Chief Exec they've had over 60 applicants for the job(1/2 of which are currently employed) - probably the same ones that applied for ours!!
Old Gimmer - you seem to have forgotten that the BBS is seen by many on here as being representative of all BFC fans. Some of us know that it is not. Personally I would have preferred for the club to do all its negotiations in secret and just let us know when its all over. I do not understand this need to know all at all stages (twitter and facebook have a lot to answer for).
Didn't help when Butcher said this morning that he never wanted to leave ICT in the first place - he just thought it might be interesting to hear what we had to say. Terrific.
