Some people are so upset that butterfield may have signed for Norwich, I for one do not begrudge him a crack in the premiership
The more I think about the Butterfield situation ... the more I think it's best he leaves. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great player, BUT If he stays and his injury takes its toll - we lose If he stays and his early performances aren't outstanding, the fans will be on his back - we lose So the only way we win is if he stays and slot straight back in, producing really good performances from the off. I'm not sure that I can see it happening. Plus his head has been turned by other prospects. I say let him go, take the money and wish him well.
Re: The more I think about the Butterfield situation Good Championship player - barely Premier League standard. Only half a season as a regular starter. Bit like Hammill, Currie, etc, etc.
Re: The more I think about the Butterfield situation A chance to play in the Premier League for a club with little expectation, no pressure, and under a quality manager - whose sides usually play 'proper football'. I think it's a good move for the lad, a chance to shine with (I'm guessing) regular football in the top flight. I think he was always better served taking this kind of step, to a club who aren't exactly big, but who are known for giving youngsters and lower leaguers a chance to shine. If he succeeds there, on the biggest domestic stage, then who knows what sort of club could come calling? Conversely, if he doesn't do so well, he'll be given time I assume, wheras at a bigger outfit most youngsters aren't afforded that level of patience. As a BFC fan, I'm hoping both clubs can come to some sort of agreement without it having to go to tribunal, and that Keith is given the monies to reinvest back into the squad. I'll end for now by thanking Jacob for his efforts whilst here at Oakwell, and by wishing the lad nothing but good luck in his future endeavours. Let us hope we aren't waiting another ten years for a prospect of similar ability. UP THE REDS
Any bitterness comes from the manner of his departure and not his leaving. I'd have wished him all the best if he had said all along that he was off at the end of the season and then left quietly. Instead we've had a lot of p1ssing about and a bunch of McPhail-esque "ambition" soundbites. I hope the lad matures quickly otherwise he'll become a cropper with that attitude.
Can you honestly say if you were his shoes and believed in your own ability you would turn down the chance at a crack in the prem,
Wouldn't begrudge him moving on, but I often struggle to see past what's best for Barnsley and I'm looking at a situation where probably the best talent to come out of the academy for a decade is leaving for a possible low fee. The reasons and ins and outs have and will be debated, but the bottom line is unfortunately we've lost our most creative asset. I'm annoyed it's dragged on this long, but hey ho. I'm frustrated we couldn't have got a substantial fee for him in January or now had he been under contract, but again, we need to move on. Let's draw a line and put every effort into replacing him. Norwood now a no go, so it'll be difficult. Mellis isn't a goal getter so dare I say a Brian Howard type player is a must. Re Butterfield's future, honestly not convinced he's up to Prem standard. I wish him well but I'm convinced he'll be on loan to Huddersfield/Peterbro/Palace/Boro or somebody come January.
Re: The more I think about the Butterfield situation I can see your point of view but what money are we going to get? It'll be 500k max whereas if he'd stayed and signed the 2 year contract on offer we would have got at least double that. I for one am sorry to see him leave and think that the club handled it badly by allowing his contract to run into it's last year. It's not been a good day on the transfer front but hopefully Keith will pull a couple more rabbits out of the hat before August 18th.
