I really feel that we will be relegated and I know that is a pessimistic view

I am sorry but I do and yes I am being pessimistic as it is how I feel.
Yesterday was a bitter, bitter blow. I am glad that I didn't witness it as I was travelling back from a week's holiday. I was gutted to miss the game in the first place but now with hindsight am glad.
I took some proper, proper stick last night and it hurt like mad.
Why are we messing about as a Club as we are doing?
I know in my heart of hearts it will be Davey who is announced as Manager and that fills me with no joy or hope whatsover.
I shall be surprised if it is anyone else.
A 3 nil drubbing at home to our biggest rivals speaks volumes to me and tells me that the players (Prima Donnas, that they are) don't want to play for Davey.
Davey is a cheap option and will be a malleable puppet.
I read what Davey said on the main site prior to the game ie on Friday night in an Internet cafe in Spain.
His words filled me with some confidence "I expect us to win the game!"
"The players will be given all they need to know to win the game" etc etc
I am fast losing hope because if they are 'given all they need to know to win the game', then sure as hell they are not taking it on board because in the games that I have seen Davey in charge of, (except Burnley as I wasn't here), the players do not look as if they know what they are doing. There have been some pretty spineless performances ie Leicester and QPR away At Leicester the players were clueless in the second half
The next few days are crucial in who we appoint and which players come in to give us a fighting chance of staying up.
I have a feeling it will be the same players that the Board has wanted us to bring in when Ritchie was here.
The targets will be the same and we shall sink or swim with them.
It's heartbreaking to watch us messing about like a fish out of water.
It will be wrong to go with an untried, untested Manager if Davey becomes the Manager and the choice could have severe long term reverberations for our beloved Club.
This morning I have lost all hope. That's how I feel anyway

Things could be worse.......................your husband..........Wendy fans........SHEP

Could actually be a born and bred Barnsley guy
Fortunately for you he is from the Swilsboro area...........which makes it a bit better I suppose
But he shouldn't be making things bad for you - tell him to piss off back to Swilsboro

Yesterday there were 7,500 of um at the WELL (how many of these were born and bred Barnsley folk or live in the Barnsley district ???)
There were NONE in town as per usual
During the game they made less noise than Burnley until they scored their second goal
After the game you would have thought they had lost - not a murmour from them outside the ground

**** scared fans

And its about time Shep stopped openning up the West Stand to away fans
The 1500 in the West Stand brought in £30,000 thats all
That part of the ground should have been made available for TARN fans to pay on the day
Plus - the addition of an extra 1500 makes the job of the police much worse
But I suppose Shep dosent think like that when he sees £30,000 in front of him

good for you

Whilst that was the worst I've seen Barnsley play at home for some time I don't think we will be relegated, nor do I think we will appoint Davey as manager after that. I am concerned that the names of Blackwell and Worthington are being suggested as if they offer anything to be excited about, but I think that whoever is in charge we'll be ok. A few new signings this month (failure to do that and i'd say we'd given up without a fight, but all the indications are there will be) and we should be able to pick up enough points.

The bottom line of all your posts says that 4th bottom is good enough for you, yet every time we lose a game but remain in that position you tell everyone how hurt and devastated and pessimistic and sorry you are. So is 4th bottom good enough or not? It is for me this year.

So £30000 is a trivial sum then Nuidger

If we could have sold out the West stand I would agree with you about not selling them to the Fowls but we wouldnt have - we didnt sell all the tickets we had to sell, still about 500 left

There are many valid criticisms regarding yesterday but selling tickets to the fowls that we wouldnt have sold ourselves isnt one of them

RE: So £30,000 is a trivial sum then Nudger................Yes

I would rather see a few dozen Barnsley fans in that part of the West Stand than 1500 Wendys
Because some TARN fans I know didn't go to the match cos they said they couldn't pay on the day i.e. they didn't know what they would be doing Saturday afternoon

Plus - an extra 1500 fans that the police know are hated by the home crowd makes things much worse for the police

So in the circumstances I would say, yes............whats £30,000 when a football club has a turn over of millions - NOWT !!!

Yes it's good enough for me. I wrote that at the beginning of the season and it hasn't changed.

losing to the Wendies hurts like mad as everyone on here knows I am married to a season ticket holder at Swillsboro. His Mother's a massive Wednesdayite and his Dad's a Blade.
It can be hard at times and yesterday was one of those days.

Well, I am convinced that Davey will be Manager

We shall know by Tuesday I expect
I have said right from the beginning that Davey will be given the job and nothing I have seen or heard has convinced me to think differently, even 3 'passionless performances' and'strange decision making' will still ensure that he is gven the job

Did you go to the Burnley game?

I am confused as all the home games I have seen under Davey have been identical.

The only reason Burnley didnt beat us is that luck was on our side.

Just as Yesterday it wasn't.

We created the same number of opportunities as against Burnley , whilst Burnley created far more than Wednesday , the difference was that Burnley missed theirs and Wednesday didnt.

No La Dent

I was on holiday, just relied on texts from friends back at home who were at the game and kept me updated. I then found an internet cafe to read all about it!
Know what you mean though about 'identical games'

If Davey is manager........................Shep

The fans will see it as the cheap option (will the players?)
And we could easily be relegated
If we are, expect low crowds next season

Shep should leave the Chairmans job to someone who knows football

RE: So £30,000 is a trivial sum then Nudger................Yes

We had plently of tickets left, and pay on the day wasnt an option because washday fans would have bought them in our end - more so if we had only sold 6000 and it was known that we were opening the west stand for tickets on the day. That would never have worked.
err if you had pay on the day a lot of fowls fans would have turned up without tickets - much worse for the police

Realistically the only options were sell that half of the west stand to fowles fans or sell 1500 fewer tickets

ah, ok

yup, i did go and take your point with regards to the number of chances, but yes i did see quite a difference between the two. For the Burnley game, i saw a good side have a go at us and save for a couple of mix-ups (mainly Colgan inspired) in the first half we dealt very well with what they threw at us and took a chance when it came along.

Yesterday wasn't comparable in terms of commitment, the lads were just not up for it for whatever reason, and we presented their chances to them on a plate. They weren't a good side that outplayed us, we just didn't turn up and it was utterly humiliating. That said if you look at the statistics we still had more shots at goal than them, more corners.

I also disagree about the 'identical matches' idea over the whole of Davey's tenure. I can't say I've been enthralled by the games but the home record speaks for itself and we picked up a very good point away at Leeds. (Admission here - did not go to Leicester or QPR so cannot comment). Whilst the football has not been exciting at all, we have been harder to beat than under Ritchie and until yesterday had defended far better as a unit.

Unfortunately we have a number of players that just aren't good enough to play at this level right now. That isn't the fault of Davey, and it wasn't entirely Ritchie's fault (though if he really believed the team was good enough as it was then he did deserve to go, but having heard how aggrieved he has been about the departure I really don't think it was as portrayed by GS) and there's only so much the club as a whole can do. We are going to have spells this season where either the results or the football or both is poor, we just have to hope we can ride it out and keep our heads above water. So far, we are doing just that.

I expect us to bring in a few players next month that will hopefully make all the difference to us. I am more confident of finishing 4th bottom now than I was the day AR left, so to that end we have to credit Davey and the team, and now move on. Priorities for me are, in order:
1. Left Back
2. Goalkeeper (Colgan has done his bit for us, but he is really struggling at the moment. And he looks like Glenn McGrath)
3. Centre Forward
4. Centre Back
5. Central Midfield Player

Lets ship out the **** (Healy, Wroe, Williams, Heckingbottom and (tin helmet ready) Richards) and just be ambitious enough to go for that extra bit of quality that will see us right. Maybe even look outside the British Isles (now there's a radical plan) for once?

stick from Dee dahs

Amazing how text messages from fans who are parents of my kids friends started coming in - they don't even go to games! And a mate of my husband rang to sing some songs down the phone. As I told them - what goes around comes around, and I will forget that in the past I have been gracious in victory, gracious in defeat, when the Reds finally beat Wednesday I will take great satisfaction in their misery. (Excluding my hubby who has been a gem). And the song i sing back to the arrogant lot ?

"You're still the worst team in Sheffield"

Tina, we have stability..............

Didnt you post similar sentiments after the appointment of AR?

He did ok.

We have kept more clean sheets with Simon Davey in charge than we did with Andy and Rick and we have a better points per game ratio.

We also have stability as the manager knows the players at his disposal and will know which ones are not good enough. Hopefully we will see some signings in January which will show that they aim to give it their best to stay in this league.

Remember if we finish where we are now we are safe, that is what we are aiming for.
