I was hopeful pre-season that we would be playing football this season.

He does seem intent on the long ball though.

    Which is very disappointing.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Have to give him the season. We can't keep sacking managers every ten minutes. Besides, at least then there'd be no doubt about "he would have kept us up/taken us down" and so on. Whilever we're mathematically in it, he has to keep his job.

I agree in theory but do'nt think it will happen because if we keep 'playing' like this we will very quickly be losing too much money.I'll be there but I think their will be a lot that wontand whether you like fair weather fans or not we need em for the income,so the economic equation will be Davey = **** football= poor results =fewer fans.whats the answer.?Like I say I really hope we start winning and playing good football but the evidence so far is not compelling.

It took him a little while to get it sorted last season

He's earned his chance to do the same again...

It should not have taken him as long this season

He should have had a game plan set out from last season, so far it looks like he is making it up by the second.

    he certainly does

im just worried its a big ask bringing in so many players at once, was never going to be a good start with all that activity and now the uncertain swapping about of the formation is a worry too, still your right he deserves his chance and plenty of time to get points on the board.

I think there-in lies the problem.

I dont think we ever got sorted last season , otherwise I doubt we would have had a wholesale change in the squad over the summer.

    i agree in theory

but thats why i would have stuck with ritchie, just hope davey gets above that 0.83 the benchmark has been set, or does that not cound if you bring in 11 new players lol

If we can pick up a few wins at home im sure we will be fine however

    RE: he certainly does

I agree, he seems to be doing a worrying amount of swapping and changing. Not only with the starting lineup, but with his early use of substitutions.

...after they sacked ritchie, while i hope davey can get them playing the way he promises i think that the people at the top (shepherd) will be thinking about the financial consequences of a return to league 1. I know its early but if we did go back to league 1 I can't help thinking we would be there for a long time, we were lucky to get out of that league.

Cryne keeps saying that he doesn't have any influence over the running of the club but i'm sure he wants to see a better team for his money.

RE: It took him a little while to get it sorted last season

    Hi,

From memory, there seemed to be a fair bit of turmoil in the first few weeks.

There were stories of stories of player unrest (owing to SD's "hard line" approach). Disco, Brian Howard, Nads & Paul Hayes (plus others) were all said to have fallen out with him.

There were also the arrests of Paul Reid, Brian Howard and Marc Richards over the alleged racist attack.

I think he did eventually get things sorted and we had a decent little run that ultimately kept us up. We faded again right at the end - mainly due to a lack of quality in the team. You can only win so many games with pure effort and determintation.

He's hopefully got a better squad this time around (players of his own choosing), so I would hope he can mould them whatever he has in mind.

I think with Mossto, he has bought a "bug liner" type striker. It's not clear at this moment in time, how he plans to get the ball to him.

"we were lucky to get out of that league"

To a certain extent, you could argue that many teams are "lucky" to get promoted - particularly with the playoff system.

I wouldn't take anything away from our achievement if I'm honest.

The Mostto signing is the mystery to me,

as our biggest signing I figured we would sign players to get him the ball in situations where he could make a difference.

However we seem to have signed a load of 6ft+ types to play up front, surely at odds with the type of football that he would excel in.

A couple of decent passing midfielders is what I was expecting.

    Very much so

I agree about the personnel in midfield. There isn't much "passing" in there - I do like the look of Grant McCann though.

I'm hoping that SD had Mossto on the bench because he hasn't really had time to work out a proper system for him. For the time being, he has gone for the simple option of two big men up front.

By all accounts, the defensive problems have been dominating the training sessions. Maybe when he can get two proper fullbacks available, he will switch back to 4-4-2 and then work on some attacking play. Here's hoping....

5 at the back doesnt seem to have helped us.

McCann is far too immobile for me, a less good version of McPhail.
