I was gutted, it hurt and I was worried how we could possibly replace him. However, losing Holgate hasn't really felt the same, I'm more than confident in James Bree and I believe he is a much more exciting prospect. I wish Mason all the very best.
I think bree is a exellent prospe t a year younger than holgate aswell. Heard good things about templeton too but havent seen him play to judge
I know what you mean mate. I really enjoyed watching Holgate, but he's not indispensable, and he's certainly not going to be the difference between us going up and staying down this season, whereas the transfer fee received for him might well be. What is gutting on a more general level is the fact that we're not even getting a full season or two of enjoyment watching these young players. Twenty first team games and they're gone.
It is a shame we can't hold onto players a little longer, however I get the feeling we might start to. Had Holgate had a few extra years on his contract I think we would have either kept him for another season or sold him for a much higher fee. Look at Ipswich, they had Tyrone Mings on a 4 year deal with 3 years left to run and because of that Ipswich slapped a 7m price tag on his head and he got snapped up. I just wish the FA would help lower end clubs hold onto their young assets and stop these billionaire owners making a fool of clubs like ourselves. Like others have said though I'm very excited to see both Templeton and Bree this season. I saw Templeton at Guiseley and he was brilliant, I know some will say the opposition isn't all that but still, you can see he's going to be a class act.
