As far as I can make out [not havin heard the interview] chairman says we could have had some players ... that no ones heard of ... but the manager didn't want them ... where's the story?
manager says he's interested in some players ... but we don't have the money ... where's the story?
are these not the circumstances for every club at our level save one or two that have gambled.

You really to need to listen the interview to appreciate why people on here are concerned. At best their appears to be a communication breakdown between AR & GS, at worst, they're at loggerheads & something may well give.
I can see people are concerned but the phrase ... 'I haven't spoken to him for about a week' doesn't mean there's a communication breakdown.
Not sure i would expect them to be talking everyday. What would they talk about? training sessions? the weather?
i would hope GS would have told AR to get on with managing the football team, while he gets on with the finances, sponsorship, marketing etc. ... and that if AR needed anything to come and see him.

GS has a right to be concerned.. His club is in free fall and the manager appears not to be addressing the problem. Same old post match excuses. We all know you can't fault the effort of his players, but the fact remains, that despite their hardwork, things aren't changing much in terms of results.
The story according to GS Ritchie had asked to buy the player and GS and he had agreed he was worth up to £150k. GS made a bid on that basis. The following day AR comes in and says he's changed his mind. Later that day Dick Knight, the Brighton chairman, phones to see what we want to do (implying he's ready to deal). GS has to tell him we're no longer interested. Or to put it another way: http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/BBS/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=51883&mid=325921#M325921
I'm not happy with Gordon's explanation of this one We know the names of several players that Andy has tried to sign in recent months / weeks. All the manager has to is give this list to the chairman and let him get on with sorting something out. That's Andy's job done and it's now up to the chairman to sort it. Gordon is fully aware of the club's budget and the salary structure within which he can operate. He has also a self confessed expert at negotiation. The signings situation is a clear failure on the part of the chairman. Could it be that Andy "changing his mind" regarding CK-R because the chairman was failing to make any progress with the deal? Doesn't there some a time when he says "forget it, Gordon"?
Exactly, not AR's job to sort money and contract. So who is failing at attracting the right players we need?
