its the biggest waste of money within my household. I watch around 4-5 programmes on the BBC a week at a push. I do not listen to one of the BBC's commercial radios nor do i use their websites for news and sport updates. Yet i still have to pay it or get an obnoxios little lovely person saying he has a legal right to entre my property and give me a fine.

I think it's more a case of them not giving a toss. It's bordering on criminal the way the can force us to pay for something we dont necessarily use. With the advancement in broadcasting technologhy they could very easily scramble a picture that wasnt paid for in the same way the sky / virgin do it. They are fecking thieves.

That'll be to move some of them up North

Built a large media centre in Salford and most of the sports in the BBC is moving there - they're being paid nearly £50,000 to relocate

I'd pay the 40 pence a day for the BBC radio podcasts alone. Luckily, they're free.

Wouldn't surprise me if increase was to cover some of the cost for securing Championship live football next season.

RE: And BBC Sport to add insult to injury

You missed the bit where it says they don't have to pay owt for the rights then!

Shame though as Channel 5 did a good job.

Anyway - isn't that saying that the BBC COULD get it for nowt, not that they've actually got it, seems that it's speculation because the rights are available because Five's contract has ended.

Its a bargain, esp. to watch tv with no ad breaks

we'd end up with a right load of tosh on all channels if the licence fee was scrapped. </p>

Rights may be free, but .....

The rights may be cast offs, but telly programmes don't get made for free - studio, presenters, production team etc etc....
A fair pot of money which could go towards retaining test cricket or topping up a bid for Champions League and/or FA Cup.

RE: Rights may be free, but .....

It'd be on in the middle of the night, would be a pittance compared to what would be needed for any football rights.

I'll have to check the UK baseball message boards cause I've not seen owt about it. Looks like pure speculation because Five's contract has ended.

Don't get me wrong - be worth watching - I'm a bit partial to the Detroit Tigers for my sins - great old ballpark Tiger Stadium, but BBC money should be put towards the Blue Ripon sports thats what I'd want my license fee spent on
