I just don't know what people on here watch at Oakwell. I see more football each week than is probably good for me - seven or eight Premiership games on average, plus the usual stuff the telly throws up. Does that make my opinion any more valid?? Probably not, but I just cannot believe some of the stuff written on here about games I've witnessed.
Okay, so we weren't Champions League winners on tonight's performance, but the lads actually played pretty well against what I'd say, based on the few games I've seen, were the best team in this division. Plymouth played with real pace and power, mixing it up nicely with some long ball stuff and pace down the flanks with runners from midfield. We rode our luck more than a few times, not least the three times they hit the woodwork!! But, despite all that, we could well have nicked it, but for a fantastic save from their keeper. McIndoe looked lively, Howard ran and ran, Hassell was great again, with some important headers, Colgan made a couple of good saves, Richards did what you want a big centre-half to do. Criticisms?? Thought Hayes wasn't at the races and Devaney only decided to start playing in the last 10-15 minutes.
Plymouth shaded it in my book, but will probably be reasonably happy with their point on the long trip home. We just about deserved our point - onwards & upwards.

"Thought Hayes wasn't at the races and Devaney only decided to start playing in the last 10-15 minutes." All about opinions! Both ran their balls off. We were commenting that whenever Devaney had the ball they were doubling up on him, he was all over the place. One guy behind us shouted at him that he was lazy....this not long after he'd been tackling back in our area!
RE: will your thoughts ease the pain of relegation? I don't get what you mean, mate. It's just interesting how things have changed at this club. Twenty years ago, the fans would have bitten your arm off if you'd offered a side like this playing this sort of football. Since expectations got bumped up by the Prem season, exciting football's no good any more, or that's how it seems.
As I said in August, we won't be relegated. Struggle yes, with a few spankings en route, but on our day, we 've got enough to beat most sides in this division. That'll do.

Agreed. One man's shocker is another's blinder, or summat. What does surprise me is some folk's take on the 'bigger picture' of how a game went.
Your memory is flawed Its time to discard the rose tinted specs.
I remember people slagging off the Hunter team that finished agonisingly short of the first division. (amongst others) If the team dont perform especially at home then they have always been (rightly) subject to criticism.
All people expect is a desire to stay in this league...not lookingh likely at this stage.
We wont be relegated? one win at home this season? two wins in how many home outings??
1 point a game = 46 points and relegation come May.
Wakey Wakey.

So's yours!! I said twenty years ago
"All people expect is a desire to stay in this league" ??!?!? So you don't think that desire is there? That's a bit of an insult to the players who appear to be showing that very desire week-in, week-out. If you think they're just not good enough to do it, then that's another thing entirely.
As I said, we won't be relegated. Come back with the 'wakey, wakey' thing in May if I'm proved wrong.

I've no doubt the players have the desire In 1986 they got some reight stick!
Currently though..
Do they have the ability?
Do the management have the bottle?
Not looking good at present I would suggest.
And I'ld rather some coffee sniffin went on immediately instead of waiting.
Chopra.
I thank you.

Chopra While we're smelling the arabica beans, there's one signing that was never going to happen, whether GS & AR had the will & means to do it or not. The lad didn't really want to come.

oh aye..arsthagetthatthen? I would suggest that after his interview in t'chron he would have come had we made an effort. I would contend we made no such move and were out manouvered by 1 Mr P Riidsdale.
Lack of savvy.

RE: oh aye..arsthagetthatthen? From what I gather, the wages that Chopra is on are beyond anything we could come close to affording. He was speaking to Ridsdale in Cardiff during the playoff final weekend, the deal was practically sewn up before we were even promoted.
On any other day Swansea would have done an Ipswich on us. Gordon Shepherd poxed a really good hand that day but he's been too cheap to play it.
Our little squad has run out of steam and unless we do something about it we'll be relegated. What are our chances of blundering promotion on the cheap again?
