Couple of reasons..... Most people (obviously not all) take their holidays in July or August so it would be nice not to miss those August fixtures. I'm missing two out of our first three home games because I am away. My fault, I know. How often do we seeing baking temperatures for August fixtures, but not so hot in September? One that stands out for me was that first league game for MK Dons when we played them at the Hockey Stadium on a scorching August Saturday. We wore black just to make it even more uncomfortable for the players. I know it can be hot in September as well, but generally it is less so. Let the early-season internationals be staged in August instead of upsetting our schedules in September. They don't much care anyway, so why should we? I would move for a first week in September start to the domestic season, finishing at the end of May, with the play-offs following in June.
Let's keep them in August no reason at all to change it. That baking hot day away at MK was fantastic. There's nothing better than a scorching hot away day first game of the season IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know, it was tongue in cheek. No need to change the start of the season, though. It's rarely that hot, and there's international tournaments every couple of years.
As I get older and more nesh a winter break and playing in the summer appeals more and more. Mea culpa.
Going back to when I started watching the Reds the season used to start at the end of August but its got earlier and earlier as years have passed. Preferred the end of August myself.
When I stared watching it was the third Saturday of August. We did however play catch up with games on Christmas Day and Boxing Day,. These games were very entertaining as some of the players were still suffering from the effects of alcohol.
No thank you. I need as many games as possible before it gets cold. I'm relieved to see that there's not many evening matches scheduled during winter, I'm hoping to be able to get to them all if the winter is as mild as the one just gone.
