The lad is an obvious talent and destined for bigger things. However, his performances of late have been disapointing and not withstanding the usual things that affect all players, such as just going through a bad patch, he will not improve at Barnsley. Why, because he has no role models in the side, or at least none that KH will select. Our defenders at the moment are a shambles, how can a young lad learn from them. A captain that doesn't inspire, I could go on and on but I have to go now (saves getting the tin hat out). Alsithee.
He hasn't been quite as impressive as earlier in the season but I wouldn't single him out for any criticism. Our play was a lot more positive before this losing run and he looked good as both an attacking force and defensively and will turn into an excellent player whether it's for us or someone else. Not sure leaving at this stage would be good for his own career, would just be like countless other players over the years who moved to a Premier League club and found themselves in competition with six other professionals for the same position.
I agree about the role model. The obvious candidate as mentor doesn't appear to be on Hills xmas card list so this doesn't send out a positive message. Looking at the defence recently there is no coherent argument (IMO) to continue overlooking Bobby, a player who can play anywhere across the back four. This is my biggest criticism of Hill.
Wasn't singling him out for criticism jedstar and apologies if it read that way, it wasn't meant to. My point is the lad's career could go backwards before it's hardly begun. It could be benificial to all concerned if he went in January. The club would get the optimum fee before his valuation dropped, and John could then perhaps be loaned out to another Championship club and be surrouded with better defenders.
I think hassells best position these days would be defensive midfielder, he did we against bristol before getting sent off. im sure he could play in midfield allowing crainie to go in the back four
I'd give him a few games at Centre Back I'd give him a few games at Centre Back - that's meant to be his position after all, and no matter how inexperienced he might be, I can't see him doing any worse than the current pairing. Play Hassell alongside him at right back to give him a bit of guidance and he could make a big difference to the side. Of course it could go belly up, but I don't see that persisting with the same combinations (Wiseman, Foster, McNulty) is doing us any good.
I think he should be sold in January but not for his own good but for our own good. His fee would get us 3-4 decent championship quality players that might just keep us up.
i agree with you there , said it in a couple of posts yesterday aswell tbh. he won't progress with present situ at oakwell and as we desperately need a commanding centre half and or a playmaker/striker i'd spin his possible sale to a few prem managers. for his and bfc's own good.
