Imagine the scenario... First game, we keep eleven men on the park, lose 2-0 at home to Wigan. Not unexpected. Second game, the ball is cleared into the stands in the 90th minute. A good point away at Blackpool. Third game, we don't lose concentration against Charlton and win 2-0. Second consecutive clean sheet. Fourth game, Mvoto doesn't get sent off, but we end up losing 2-1 because Jordan Rhodes is better than us. Cup last night, we don't fall asleep late on and lose 3-1 at home to a side that cost a little bit more than us and will probably finish mid table in the top flight. No big deal. So we'd have played 4, won 1, drawn 1, lost 2. Scored 3, conceded 4 and gone out admirably to Southampton in round two. Not such a bad start. Keep the faith.
Problem is we're dealing with actual results rather than 'what ifs' - and at the moment, the lessons we should take from Blacky and Charlton aren't being learnt.
I don't disagree at all, I suppose I was just trying to not be too depressed. I was ready for swinging from the ceiling last night when their number 10 waltzed through for the 5th goal.
I know what you're saying, 4 points on the board and we can leave the Samaritans alone, but it's like groundhog day at the mo... think we're missing Crainie massively.
Agree that we've been unlucky. But to be honest it's not so much the defeats that are worrying me, more the way we have completely capitulated following the sending offs, defensive errors etc. No shame in losing to Wigan, Saints...even Blackpool but the margin of defeat and ease at which the opposition have scored past us is a concern.
Know what you are saying but as EN says, teh lessons are not being lernt is seems and it was not a lack of concentration vs Charlton, it was rank bad defening coupled with a piss poor tactical decision...
Saturday is a massive game against a team that we would have been aspiring to finish above at the start of the season. It should be a good crowd as well so if the players can't get themselves up for this then we're in for some serious trouble...some very tough games coming up and I fear heads may roll if we don't have more points than games played within the next few weeks.
I agree to a certain extent, especially with the first two games but the problem now is that the problems have snowballed and we're now severely lacking in confidence. The facts remain that we have conceded 10 goals in the last 2 games and that is bound to play on players minds come the weekend. I just hope we can turn it around and possibly get a respectable draw on Saturday and move on after the break.
