He thought his audience were rational adults. Not a set of spoilt little brats.

I also thought that it was put in a different context....

    ie,

we are more likely to find the money for a box office player, in other words, if it were the benefit all round etc, PC would put his money in his pocket (ie own money rather than the clubs money)

Didn't actually take it as saying we WOULD sign box office players.

At the end of the day, its ritchie who says who he wants...

    Just a thought!

i think they were fairly confident of putting together a decent offer for chopra until the big fat silver haired controller came storming in and offered him something we couldn't match.

Exactly - he was speaking a personal opinion RE Chopra.

He NEVER said we'll be signing box office players, what he said was we'd be more likely to put the money in IF these "Box Office" players became available.

Thought it was only me who had read it like that.

He isn't on the board is he?

He was just saying that if the club were after a "box office" player and that the transfer fee might be a stumbling block, all other things being ok (e.g. wages), then he would be willing to stump up the cash personally to buy the player.

    He meant

...if they were going to pay over the odds it would have to be for a box office player, not the likes of Foster and Johnson. But there was obviously still going to be limits - we're not Barcelona! - and those limits were exceeded with Chopra.

    Some facts for you.

Russell Crowe and Glenda Jackson up front, the guy who plays Tony Stamp in The Bill as the midfield ball winner, Kevin Spacey as the defensive mastermind, and Verne Troyer in the nets.

Not keen on Spacey though. We need experience, such as Michael Caine in Escape to Victory.

Shepherd out! He hasn't a clue.

I'm not exactly 'box office' though. A great signing, no doubt, with a couple of good years left in me. 1066 and 1945.

    We need a big name

Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand of Hapsburg, maybe.

How about Notorious BIG? Or does that send out the wrong message to the fans? That is, our scouts are looking at dead rappers. And recommended one.

I'll agree that we do "need experience, such as Michael Caine in Escape to Victory", but I don't think he'd last a full game never mind teh full season, how about Michael Caine in Get Carter, still plenty of energy in him but not in his first flush of youth, plus you know he can boss the midfield and hand out a few slaps when necessary.

No, no, no. Caine in Get Carter was renowned for his defensive lapses and his ability to pick up cards for needless revenge killings. If you're talking early Caine, we need him in Alfie. Quick up front, and always looked likely to score. Until they changed the offside rule.

Nonsense, Caine in Zulu surely? Terrific motivator, accurate shot.
