Throughout the team we looked solid, assured, adventurous, hard working, confident. Boro pass the ball well, lovely touches and first time passes but had zero up front, never worried Gonzalez really.Speaking of which I though he was excellent, thrown in at the deep end, commanded his box, flapped at a few but generally had nowt to do.When called on he was there in the right place. Feared the worst when I saw Wiseman at centre half but I thought he did well, partly due to not having anyone to mark Stones had Emnes in his pocket after he got by him once.Mellis was central to all things good yesterday, his passing is exceptional, his touch, his set pieces. The boy will revel in this role and playing every week, no time for smoke grenades here kid, just blinding the opposition. Harewood looks lively, up for it, big, strong and ready for a new challenge. He is gonna prove to be the perfect foil for big Craaaaaaaaaig Daaaaaaaaavies GOAL SELECTA! Special praise has to be to the two widemen yesterday though, Csykashukerchuuker and Ethuhooo Thought the young Pole looked fantastic, he ran the ball well, has tricks, can cross and grafts.A great piece of business. Not forgetting Kelvin, he worked the line and his balls off all afternoon, has a nice touch, a brain and tracks back well, superb signing. All in all a simply fantastic performance despite injury setbacks, the squad depth looks a lot better than last term. Just about all signings have played Prem or Championship football and it showed yesterday. We look bigger and stronger in final third, just wait till big Egyptian comes back!!! Yoooooooooooooooooooooo Redssssssssssssss
I thought Etuhu put a shift in too. I have read some questioning his energy, not for me, he put the graft in and showed some nice touches. Thought the whole team looked faster, attacking and getting back.
Agree with that, I did think we looked more vulnerable when Mellis went off for Dawson but all in all it was a satisfying performance. The wait for the final whistle was nail-biting, especially as it was difficult to tell how much time was actually left in the game!
Maybe, but I think this coincided with Harewood running out of energy too. He didn't seem to be able to hold on to the ball when we most needed him to do so.
