TMPEG Encoder, converts an avi file to a mpeg file. However, unless your DVD Player will play raw mpeg files, you will need to author it into a DVD file using a proprietary DVD authoring package such as DVD Movie Factory. The easiest thing to do, is to buy a DIVX ready DVD player for 25 quid - then, you can burn avi's straight to disc and play them.
If you are doing this on a regular basis then invest £10 in the most efficient DVD conversion programme i have ever used. SVCD2DVD Will convert SVCD VCD AVI DivX mpeg Xvid and Bin and cue files to a DVD ready to play on your computer or stand alone Best £10 i have ever spent. and has never failed me yet. Takes a couple of hours for AVI formats but bin and cue or mpeg less than 20 mins usually
I know nowt about dvd burners but wouldnt mind buying one, so stupid question coming up. Can I just make an exact copy of an existing DVD like I can do with CDs? So put in a DVD film, and it just copy keeping all the menus special features etc? I have seen stuff about copying DVDs before and it seemed to involve loads of different apps, ripping, shrinking summat, etc.
Ermmm yes but no but. DVD's are usually larger than tyhe normal 4.7Gb DVD, so most need shrinking to fit. The program DVD Shrink will do this (free), but the more the size has to be reduced, the greater the loss of picture quality.
So does it keep all the menus the same and everything, or does it just shrink the film? So I presume its not as simple as stick the dvd to copy and the blank dvd in and click go. You have to rip, shrink then burn? How long does it take?
NeroVision express will do it. Although I tend to use a (free) program called DVD2SVCD. It is far from simple as it is quite a versatile piece of software, and thus needs configuring for your needs. However, should you decide to use it I can answer any questions.
