First half we couldn't get near 'em, they were just too quick and passed it too well but we defended really well IMHO, last ditch tackles, bit of luck and Steele keeping it to 1-0. Second half we got a grip on it. Place was bouncing, we were competing and looked dangerous but they score a break away and we just lose it. Game over. Don't understand the slagging off of any players after last night. At all. If Cranie & Ramage weren't injured I'd be absolutely convinced we'd stop up after that performance.
This post is everything that is wrong with barnsley fans...proud of em!! That is just daft. We were shambolic, you can use them been top of league all you want, that dosent take away the fact we were awful. I have never seen a more inept performance than that. They made us look stupid from start to finish. Athersley rec would have gave a better game then that lot. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I think the problem is it could and should have been a cricket score and we offered nothing of note up front. I do think we tried and I don't recognise the comments where players were going through the motions. They ran, they just didn't get near the ball because the best team in the league (and i hate the fact they are) moved the ball too quickly and highlighted our deficiencies. The sad thing is i'm sure many of the side have ability. But we've not linked performances together to get a head of steam going. The biggest thing for me last night was the contrast of a team that had played together for the best part of 2 years, that knew their jobs, knew where movement would happen and were brim full of confidence because they know they are up with a huge gap on 3rd place with a game in hand. We on the other hand have a side that don't know their jobs, have weak links that can undo a lot of very good work quickly, have players who have played just a handful of games for us, let alone with the players around them and are brittle under pressure. If we'd got a few wins back to back and were playing Leicester who were in the thick of a play off hunt and had pressure on them I suspect the gap wouldn't be as wide as it was last night.
sometimes you just have to say you were beaten by the much better team. no disgrace in losing last night. best team i've seen at oakwell for a while. i said at the start of the game, our best result might be keeping the GD to a minimum. the losses to cranie, ramage and o'brien much bigger than that result. but it's a step too far for me, to say i was proud of them all. mellis, mccourt and woods in particular may as well have not been on the pitch. woeful performances IMO. and i'm not talking about ability here, i'm talking about work rate and effort. we should demand that as an absolute minimum, and all three strolled around like it was a training match. unnacceptable. i'm not gonna have a go at the likes of m'voto and nyatanga, because they've hardly had any game time and there's only so much they can do, when asked to come on under those circumstances. not even going to have a go at the likes of kennedy. as poor as he was, he never lacks effort and he's just up against far better opposition. we now have ramage, cranie, o'brien, mclaughlin and hassell all missing. not cool.
Losing Cranie and Ramage has sealed our fate IMO because thanks to Flicker the two we had on the pitch as replacements are league 2 standard at best and that will be our final undoing. I was far from proud of the team last night, I expected to lose and we did so that wasn't my concern, my biggest frustration last night was that too many players seemed beaten right from the first whistle and some players looked like they couldn't care less. Like I said last night we had around four players who should be ashamed of their performance last night.
Dyson, you must have (a) been at a different game to me, (b) taking the pi55, or (c) using mind bending medication. Yes, Leicester were far the better side. But Reds showed very little fight and heart for the battle (Dawson and Steele excepted). Mellis and Woods were terrible. Both full backs were constantly out of position and Kennedy showed little heart to win anything. Crainie was unlucky, but Ramage was laboured and his passes out of defence usually hit a supporter. Lets not forget he looked like he was wading through treacle when Vardy steamed past him for the first goal. The fans did get more vociferous in the first 10 mins of 2nd half, thats all. Wasn't exactly bouncing was it? They then scored 2nd goal, heads went down right through the team, game over. The vast majority of what i witnessed was exactly what is wrong with BFC. No spirit for the fight, poor player recruitment, poor management / coaching recruitment who cant even get the lads up for a fight. If you know youre playing a team that is technically better than you, a great way to even the game up is by the physicality and mentality side. We didn't do it. We never do it. We used to do it...........
Re: Wasn't it M'voto that laboured for the first goal? It definitely was unless Ramage had 'blacked up' and I'm sure that's frowned on these days.
Re: Wasn't it M'voto that laboured for the first goal? Great original post. We lost against a better team. Their movement on and off the ball destroyed us and we looked laboured and ineffective. Unsurprising as several Leicester players cost more than our whole squad bought with money they don't have and can't afford.
How much game time has McCourt had?! I think it's entirely reasonable to expect someone who has hardly had a look in to be drafted in and turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. Not.
Agree with a lot of what you say but disagree on Ramage. He had a good game up to getting injured. It was M'Voto who got skinned for the 1st goal. Ramage's distribution was poor because Wilson brought M'Voto on instead of Nyatanga meaning Ramage had to go to the left & play out on his weaker left foot. The difference was obvious after he went off.
It's pretty impossible to defend Ramage's inability to make even the simplest of passes out of defence, not just yesterday but in general he plays like he's wearing banana boots but he is a good solid defender.
I think he and Cranie are a very good partnership - that can be seen by (Hudds aside) our improved record since Danny came in and hasn't changed it. In contrast, any player playing alongside Big F.cking John will look *****.
