I know he lacks pace, but he is the only forward who can hold the ball up and shield it until support arrives. Not trying to be critical of MR, but listening to the commentary, it was obvious the ball needed to stay up front for longer periods. Having said that, defence was its usual self-pitying self again. MR spoke well after the match and I like his after-match comments 'actions speak louder than words'
It'll be interesting to read player interviews next week as MR admitted that their is a lack of confidence, something they and SD have previously denied.

  3. Lack of confidence, certainly

But the real disappointment was no creativity. It was as if we were playing on a pitch 50 yards wide at times. No space, no telling through balls, no movement really. Whether or not Macken would have improved it is debatable. I don't think he would to be honest

    Thanks Gloucester Red..

glad someone who's been has posted, as I know it can be a different game listening to commentary. It did sound like (particularly first half) that the ball was coming straight back and therefore perhaps Macken would've made a difference.
it also sounded like we were out-battled for much of the time, whi9ch to me is unacceptable seeing as though they had a side almost full of kids and we had plenty of experience out there.

Perhaps what Barnsley need are some youngsters wanting to prove themselves ,be they from the lower leagues or not, this lot seem to have no passion at all and are playing in the comfort zone and those that are need dropping and when possible shipping out,we all know who these players are,Davey wouldnt have done this lets hope Mark Robins does.

    Part of the problem

Especially in the first half was everyone came back for corners free kicks etc so when the ball was cleared there was no one to clear it to

Even when we started leaving Gray up front he cant hold the ball like Macken can. I dont expect many points from the next few games until Robins has chance to figure out the best team with the players he has. I dont think todays is it

Doubt we will see Kayode much or Thompson again

Expect Hammil and Hume to start on Tuesday
