(Before the letter comes, this is heresay, gossip and conjecture and is NOT being claimed as fact, nor is it asleight on anyone's character) That the board are shitting themselves about going up and panicking that if we do go up and then sign players on two year + deals on championship wages and then get relegated, it could undo all the hard work they have done to stabilise the club to date.
Mr Lodge in today's Chron says... he has been told that the out of contract players have been offered deals for less money than they are currently on
RE: oh dear.. what do you expect ???? offer the bunch of half arsed couldnt be bothered lot more money ??? or get some body in who maybe wants to bust a gut for the team..
Reliable source? Doesnt sound that plausible to me. Its still a buyers market for players, I recon most of our current squad are good enough for the championship so we dont need to go mad on signings - a couple of decent strikers a left back and winger - we could even sign a couple older players on a 1 year deal. Why cant he planning for next year take worst case that we come straight back down? No worse that planning next year assuming we arent going to go up.
Some signs of sanity from the board at last Far from being run on shoestring, I would imagine quite a few of this team are on more than decent wages.
RE: wouldn't you be disappointed if we lost McPhail yes , any team would be gutted to lose a player of his class , if the wispers are correct tho and hes on 4 grand a week , double any one else in the team then such is life sometimes.... Mcphial , shuker , conlon , carbon , maybe wroe/williams probably free up 10 grand a week to spend else where,
I gather it's fairly common to have a relegation clause in contracts that cuts wages if a club drops out of the division so with that option why should the Board worry
I want to go to Cardiff... ...but I'm not sure I want promotion ... this season. Build on a good foundation, go up stronger next time, have a chance of staying up. I think our current team would really struggle, a bit more strength and depth is needed before we'd be good enough to make a fist of it in the Championship
That would explain Ritchies reluctance to delve into the transfer market, given our position earlier in the season, automatic seems to have frightened them, if it's true, then we are in for a long, long spell in this pub league.
