Cause a mate of mine does a sports course at the KC stadium and got 5 free tickets, so i thought 'ehh why not'. Four things that struck me- 1. How hull didn't win i'll never know 2. It was fooking freezing 3. Why, oh why, couldn't i have been at Oakwell to see what i'm told was an outstanding first half from the reds. 4. Although it is a pretty nice stadium, my god there was no atmosphere. I know it's been pretty bad at the 'well recently, but literally the whole 90 minutes no one stood when Hull had a goal scoring chance/corner. Both Hull fans and Donny were quiet most of the way through, but it just struck me at how little support there seemed to be for the home team. Hardly anyone clapped after a chance on goal, no one clapped for the Man of the Match, or for the 19,000+ attendance (which i'm told is above average) which when they're pushing for promotion was a real surprise. I think it must be down to the design and layout of the stadium which makes me so grateful that we still have our ground with all it's wonderful character. So this made me realise, although it's been a bit quiet at Oakwell recently, it could be a lot worse. At least we still clap for the MOTM when they've had a great game, and we still get on our feet when we have a chance/corner. I think some crowd support can go a long way to raise the team's spirits. Would rather be at Oakwell any day of the week.
Ponty varies alot with noise levels but I here away support has been very vocal this season. I hear Blackpool support is very vocal.
Yeah, apparently Derby were in good voice last night even 3-0 down. Love it when the Ponty's in good voice
Its been a bit of a library from day 1 and I don't put it down to the stadium - I have been there for several FC/KR derbies and the atmosphere is electric on those occasions. The biggest problem is they have approx 50% of their support who jumped on the "shiny new stadium" bandwagon and all that entails. Deep down, many of these are not die hard football fans and as suc,h, they expect atmosphere to be something that is part of the deal, without ever realising it's their responsibility to generate it. Its a common problem with many supporters these days. Just happens that Hull City have a lot of this type.
Yeah that's a good point and i think i agree with that actually. Where we were no one really seemed that interested it was strange. My mate who's a hull fan said it the support went downhill after new stadium and promotion, like you say all the 'oooo look there's a new stadium! And "we're" in the top league' people spoil it.
**** on pal,no one will ever convince me that dull are a big club, i recall the last time they played at this level in the 80's and early 90's you were lucky if they fetched more than 400 fans to oakwell and at boothferry park they rarely pulled more than 6000.
You missed a first half to die for Wosbro owd pal. Simply stunning. Which leaves me wondering, if our second half drop-off was in part down to the tired Tongey and Korey, that we COULD have a sneaky tilt at the playoffs... there, Ive said it.. first time this season, but yeah, why not?
Compared to some grounds, I thought Hull wasn't bad, with them in the corner providing some decent banter. Although it seems to have wained recently. It appears to be a symptom of new stadiums, they're all the same, soulless bowls, great 'facilities', equipped for the Premiership. No character or atmosphere though. You always tend to get a 'corner' where fans stand, designated as a 'singing section', but it rarely produces anything of note. Ponty End isn't bad, just needs a few more vocal types to encourage others and a concensus amongst fans that singing and occasionally standing isn't a bad thing!
