BFC will wait until clubs come sniffing for Luke Steele. They will then make a token contract offer. Luke Steele will see a pitiful offer from BFC and much more lucrative offers from other clubs. He will inevitably choose the more profitable offer from elsewhere at which point BFC will say 'well we offered him a contract but we just cant afford to match other clubs'.

The fans will be split in half on this with half believing that the club did everything it could and the other half realising that had the club been more proactive they could have got Steele tied down to a contract before anyone else even came sniffing.

Feel free to change the name of the player and the date of this post to 30-11-2011/10/09/08 and you will have exactly what happened with Vaz Te, Butterfield, Hammill? etc.

Or, purely to play devil's advocate, the player says he wants to stay, putting the onus on the club to provide a big offer, and when the money isn't (and was never going to be) as high as other clubs will inevitably offer, he moves and comes out looking loyal and earning the respect of the fans.
