I honestly thought Winnall would not cut it in this League and would struggle. I didnt expect him to get as many goals the whole of the season as he has now. So well done for proving me wrong
To be honest I felt the same but he has adapted his game and obviously worked on his heading. His movement and knack of drifting undetected away from his marker is exemplary.
Fair comment mate, but I doubt you're on your own, and not just in relation to Winall. I think if we're all honest, most thought many of the team would struggle at this level, with a few exceptions. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I think the whole squad had a question mark. None of them had ever performed at this level having made a big step up to L1. It's great to see them bossing the championship - no more so than Sam. Think he's a far more talented player than he gets credit for sometimes. Imagine he can still get better. Few seasons at champ and he'll be in a strikers prime. Hope that's with us.
Only Gayle and Murray have a better goals per minute on pitch ratio. He's never going to be the fastest player, but his movement to create his own chances, buys him the time he needs. Good lad our Sam.
Let's be honest, he's been very lucky lately. They've just been bouncing off his head and going in...
He is tremendous at finding room in the box. Which means he has chances. And his finishing is commendable. His first goal against Cardiff was astounding. He has a principal provider who obviously knows how to make the best of him. Bit of telepathy there. His touch outside the box and build up play though is often mediocre. Has to be said. Otherwise he wouldn't still be playing for us. He seems to get better for staying fit. A whole injury free season and the whole package might all come together. I wouldn't have had him as first choice striker in August. I would now.
He's the leader of our front line how anyone can criticise him is mental. There's a bloke on the same row as me who's favourite line was " winnall tha crap" then every time Sam scores I remind said tit what a dopper he is .
He's very good inside the box, not so great outside it, but give him the service and he will get you goals. That said, the one thing that has surprised me this season is how many headers he's won against opposition centre halves. Just needs to improve with the ball at his feet.
Another jammy bleeder. Just hoofs it anywhere, hits Winnall on the head and before you can say 'Hemsworth Tyke', we've won three nowt... Talk abart luck o' the Oirish...
One of the best forwards I've seen play for us. I wondered if he would adapt but his speed of movement Is in his head rather than in his feet and is harder to track. Reminds me of Andy Payton.
I had my reservations, but strikers like Winnall will score goals at every level. He's a poacher. He's always on the end of a cross onto the edge of the 6 yard area. If the balls good, he'll score goals. His goals come from the quality of others, mainly Hourihane and Watkins. You'll not often see him smashing them in from 30 yards out, but a goal is a goal. The chap next to me missed his goal yesterday, and I just said that it was a typical Winnall goal. He knew exactly what I meant. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
Completely agree. Brilliant striker. For his perceived limitations outside the penalty area (a la Payton) his strikers' instinct is as good as anything I've seen. When things aren't going his way he never hides either.
