surely we could control the idiots who ruined it, I used to enjoy that tournament. Better than the pointless friendlies we use these days.

I agree - they could have a 5 nations style tournament with the republic of Eire every 2 years.

To give the British and Irish players something to do during the summers when their French, Spanish, German and Italian team mates qualify for the world and European championships.

I've just looked up when the last one was played, was it really 1984? I can't believe that.

They were good at the time but the established Internationals of today would try to wangle their way out of such low key games.

England might have a chance of winning something then!

    Just a slight chance mind!

Can see why they stopped doing them but in today's society no-one dare say boo to a goose so there's not much danger of any real bother.

I used to love them and they would be significantly better games than the shitty meaningless friendlies that they play now. I doubt they'll ever be brought back though.

Also used to be you'd only get highlights of the games other than England v Scotland which was the last game and was on live.

Was always an highlight of the season because you'd normally only get this and the FA Cup final shown live.
