David Flitcroft hadn't signed a new contract. After the Huddersfield game I posted that I thought Flitcroft should walk with his head held high, because after the euphoria of what we had achieved he was always there for a fall.I feel that anything but a resounding victory on Saturday will be the end of his tenure at Oakwell. My personal view on D.F is that his name will go down in Oakwell history and what he accomplished with the players might never ever be reached again.I'm sure the powers that be will have there hand on the pulse and if it's there choice to make a change for the better of the club then so beit.I hope he can turn things around starting this weekend but if not the club is bigger than any one one man.I hope when he does leave Oakwell he'll be remembered for last season which was nothing short of a miracle.
Hey up mate alright.. The tide has certainly shifted against Flicker now. I think so much was riding on being able to pick up far more points than we have during the last 4 games. In Donny and Wednesday we played the 2 worst teams in this league and failed to beat either of them, and at home. It seems to me Flicker has adopted the same stubborn mode that Keith Hill had, except he's more respectful to the fans (in public anyway). Shame he could'nt/wouldnt continue from last season. As they say it's a results based business, so I guess the inevitable will happen.
Wonder what would happen if things didn't go well on Saturday and he got sack and Mellon took temp charge and we started winning with attitude?
I think it would be same old thing, win a few and its Mellons red and white army lose a few and "he should have gone with Flitcroft"
Hey up pal.I think you right about not beating teams around us.Most fans were forgiving losing to so called bigger teams but fully expecting to beat teams like Sheff.Wed.and Doncaster who both looked far worse than us.Lets hope we can regain the form of a few months ago and climb to mid table security.
I wish Flicker all the best with what he's doing at the moment because I'm sure he's doing his absolute bloody best to rectify the situation. BUT, if we don't get 3pts and a decent performance at the weekend, it could be time for him to depart. Looking at the fixtures it seems the ideal time as well to me. For what Flicker did last season, he will probably go down as a Barnsley legend. It's a tremendous story but the situation at the moment, as one other poster put the other day, is like a slow hanging. If the board relieved him of his duty soon, he could leave with his head held high and with a certain amount of dignity. If he takes us down, it will be a crying shame after the promise of pre-season and last season's heroics will become something of a distant memory. The board could bring a slightly more experienced guy in and put it down to the continued transformation/refresh taking place at the club.
In hindsight, I agree. All last season's positive, do or die mentality seems to have disappeared and we've resorted to a negative style, worrying about the opposition more than our own tactics. I thought we'd turned a corner after the Reading game, and we do seem to have stopped shipping so many goals, but we're now lacking upfront. If we don't get a result against Birmingham then surely it's the end for him. He'll always have my respect for last season's heroics, but if he were to get the boot this weekend then I wouldn't be disappointed. We do have a good bunch of players capable of avoiding the drop, it's just the tactics that need to be applied.
