I think I might know the answer to that one but has anyone ever accidentally submerged their iphone in water for a few seconds and then got it to work again?

I did that very thing this evening and it spluttered and died and will not come back on. Do I need a knew one or is there any hope?

I'm sure putting it in a bowl of rice is the preferred suggestion for remedy.

I gave it a good shake and some water came out of the holes at the bottom and it is now in the airing cupboard.

I can't believe I was so stupid to drop it into water :mad:

Try putting it in the airing cupboard for 24 hours or so - a long period to slowly dry out.

My stepson spilt Coke over his, and this resolved the problem.

Good luck with the phone, and with the move!!!!

I dropped my galaxy s3 in a toilet full of piss once and it still works. It was a difficult decision whether to go fishing for it or write it off and claim on the insurance.

Thanks for that - the move will be some time next month. The phone is in the airing cupboard now and I just looked at it - a series of vertical stripes have appeared on the screen but the power switch does nothing. Case of waiting and hoping I suppose.

Errrrr.......that is where mine went but I didn't think twice about retrieving it. I've not had it long enough to write it off, even though it might come to that

The worst case scenario is to book in at the genius bar at your nearest apple store and they'll give you a brand new one in exchange of the bricked one and a charge of around 150 quid.

Trying to turn it on before its dried out is a bad idea! Take it apart, get as much water off all parts and leave to dry. Get rice in sealed container, put phone in and make sure its covered. Leave for 24 hours. Good luck.

Mrs Burgundy Red's Lenovo Yoga 13 is currently in a container of rice in the hope of recovery from a similar experiment with a glass of Pouilly-Fumé. It's an expensive experiment - a grand for the laptop plus a couple of quid for the wine. I'm not overly optimistic.

By the way, if it ends up bricked, and you have insurance be very careful what you put on the claim form. They have a nack of screwing you - read all the small print before you action.

I once dropped a Sagem (remember them?) in a bucket of water, it was a bit hit and miss for a while after, and what annoyed me the most was that it refused to save every other picture I took on it. I got really annoyed when I got a perfect image of Nardiello striking the free kick at the millennium stadium only for my phone not to save it. But I got it repaired after that.

I then had a Sony Ericsson K800i which survived trial by bath, and torrential downpour, as well as being trapped in a car door which resulted in it being bent in the middle. It was bomb proof that phone. It finally died when the battery inside it exploded.

Modern phones just dont stand up to the same hammer that old phones did. However I've got a Nokia Lumia 800 at the mo, and touch wood its been spot on in the year I've had it.

There's a sensor (LCI) inside that detects if its broken as a result of water damage. If it's changed colour, then they won't touch it.

iPhone 5 sensor can be seen in the sim slot.

Some of the bank accounts that you have to pay for the privilege of holding include mobile phone cover. I don't have one of these accounts myself but I do know NatWests Advantage Gold account gives you mobile phone insurance.
