when i worked on tracky, now and then i would get on a bus
and there would be a piesce of pipe and 2 foot long
i used to wonder what it was doing there
One day i was on Doderth wusbra common
i had set off from common, put it in first and was changing gear
when the gear lever just broke in two ,it did not snap it just
felt soft, and there i was driving a bus with a 3 inch gear lever

went to report it in bus station
and the Inspector came with me to the bus
picked up this pipe and it slotted nicley over the gear lever
which had been broke before you could see the welding
i tell you live and learn summat new every day
its the 1950,s im on abaht

Funny you should say that Bob

I was on a tracky once, early 60s I should think, when the driver pulled up on the railway bridge on Gawber Road.

Clippy walks down bus and taps on cab window, driver turns round holding gearstick up in his hand!
