I was in fear of losing my saturday bonding sessions with my teenage son, with the lure of meadowhall with his mates more appealing than watching Barnsley play tippy tappy only to get beat time and time again, and then suffer the ribbing from his MASSIVE mates. I've always been a bit of embarrassment to him at the matches, shouting and jeering etc, whilst he sat there quietly, only ever showing emotion when we scored. Always been a quiet lad over the last few seasons. However, over the last 2 months I've noticed a change. He's showing much more passion, he's always talking about the games and squad in between matches. Heck, I've even seem him mouthing along to a few of the chants. Stay up or go down, this team has had a massive effect of my son, and I know for sure he'll be with me on the terraces for at least another season. And for this, FLICKER I THANK YOU !!!
Great point. I've noticed that too and it has to be part of the approach to a match and how you set out to play the game. The intensity is taking it's toll on the team but is having a very positive effect on the young supporters. There is something very honest and wholesome about Flitcroft, which I think comes across to the kids too. Saying that, there was some awful language coming from some ten year olds in the West stand last night. I had to cover my ears!!
