Listening to the news there are similarities. After their head injuries both were ok for a while but fell ill in hospital later. Iain has a life saving operation and, hopefully, will make a full recovery (we still don't know yet though do we?). Natasha, after a fall on a nursery slope while skiing, does not recover from her injury and dies. How fine the line between life and death.
Did she collide with another skiier or just hit her head on the ground?
Apparently she wasn't wearing a helmet. When I ski I never wear a helmet either, but I'm thinking I should seriously re-consider that.

Not clear how it happened yet. There was something on the news this morning though about helmets and one professional skiier said he believed his greatest danger was being hit from behind by another skier and he preferred to keep his ears uncovered to try to prevent this happening (in other words to NOT wear a helmet). It's difficult isn't it. I never wear a helmet when cycling but I know I should.
****. I didn't know that.
That's horrible news. And you're right - although we can be incredibly robust it's sobering to know how easilylife can sometimes be snuffed out.
Sad to see her go.

Tragic family the Richardsons/Redgraves Over the years lots of tragedies - she even mentioned she thought the family was cursed a little while ago. Even husband Liam Neeson lucky to survive a car crash. Only 45 and she dies because she banged her head while learning to ski. Doesn't make any sense does it...
Its tragic And really unlucky Its not clear whether wearing a helmet would have helped in any case as my understanding was it was just a minor fall could just as easily have happend if tripping up walking on a pavement. Must be devastating for her family and friends
RE: ****. I didn't know that. Yep. It's a fine line between life and death, even in this "modern" world.
Regardless of all the crap that happens to you, and the doom and gloom spouted on the news about recesion etc. its instantly put into perspective by tragic news like this. We're still here, and we need to make the most of our time 'cos you never know.
Deepest condolences to the families.

Similar thing happened to my Dad. Had a minor car crash and just bumped his head. No dramas, concussion or anything, just a very minor scrape. Two days later he's collapsed while talking to my Mum. A week later we're turning the life support machine off.
Very sorry to hear that I suppose we all seem to think that the shell around that blancmange of a brain that we all have is pretty tough and will protect us from most things. Truth is though it is little more than an egg shell if hit at just the right spot. Makes it all the more incredulous that dimwits like Morgan and the like think it is ok to swing their elbows around when playing what can be a dangerous sport. I suppose he is so thick though that it would take a sledgehammer to crack his nut.
didn't something similar happen in a film her husband starred in? (i.e. his wife died, had to raise kids on his own... Love Actually?) scary.
Thanks Been a few years now so it gets easier but things like this bring it all back. God bless the Richardson's.
You're right, it did - very scary! Love Actually, where he has the kid to raise by himself, budding drummer. Art imitates life all the time, and vice versa
