I'd have been about 11 at the time, just moved up to Kirk Balk. It was only a practice match and tut, of course no video cameras present. In fact mine was better because it was a defender who headed the ball and the goalie was more or less on his line and might have done better had I not hit it with such accuracy and power. He didn't stand a chance, poor lad. It was particularly special because the opposition were much older than me and had hairy balls etc. I've scored a lot of similar goals, but that's the one that gets talked about in the pubs, to this day by the old Dads of Hoyland. It's gained mythical status, a bit like the 100 lb pike of Worsborough Res. Loads of folk claim to have been there, but trust me - they're probably lying.
