We all know 7 is Ronaldo's, 26 is John Terry's. Just thinking which of our past players have made kit numbers iconic? Redfearn - 8. Glavin - 4. Anderson de Silva - 15... Dominik Werling - 55
Barry is obviously not remembered by many young 'uns. Holds the appearance record which will never be broken & still doing hospitality at the club (I see him on the pitch before every game). He definitely should have the no. 2 shirt, as should Glavin be 4 & McCarthy be 6. ****, this is turning into a Pixies song, if Hammill is 7, this monkey's gone to heaven.
Peachy is not Peachey, but there is a nod to the Prince. 9 is a hard one. Despite his unpolitical knob out incorrectness, I'd say Neil Shipperley was the best no 9 for me. Close second would be Trevor Aylott.
Was going to mention Ian Banks but didn't know if he recovered his number when he returned (had a hiatus(painful) watching Barnsley when moved away and kids playing rugby). Had the number 5 for left midfield at a time when the numbers had more of a significance to their position on the pitch. Presumably came about because Norman Hunter previously had the 5 and Evans the 7 (which Evans then kept)?
7 - Josh Scowen...then Hammill signed a new contract, and it became... 6 - Josh Scowen...and he wasn’t happy!!!
