and all I can think is that Mattis has the potential to be the worst player I have seen in a Barnsley shirt.

If this guy is a professional footballer then there is hope for the rest of us.

I want to give Davey a chance, but with signings like this he is shooting himself in the foot.

But Martin Wilkinson reccomends them. he once recommended Ronnie Glavin, apparently.

    Get a grip

He might not be a world beater, but it was his first match after moving up two leagues, and having half a weeks training with the players. He came into a team on a ***** run, and lacking in confidence. It was also against a very strong team, who are third in the league, and who did their best to bypass the midfield. Christ on a bike, give em a chance before we write them off.

Davey has had plenty of games with which to convince.

I havent seen us play well in 1 game since he has been in charge.

Signing players from the bottom of league's 1 and 2 isnt going to help us either.

Not going to slate Mattis at all.

The poor sod was dropped right in it. Into a match against one of the division's better sides where we needed our strongest players in their favoured positions. But no, he was sacrificed to prove a point by the novice.

Signing someone like Mattis is okay when you're established and want to maybe gamble on a lower league player and see if you can develop him. Not throw him straight into a relegation scrap.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Bingo. All this 'Nugent came from Bury', 'Ian Wright came from non-league' and stuff - the teams that bought them could afford to take a hit if they failed to prove shrewd buys. We don't have that luxury.

I hope they all work out, I really do, but it's a much bigger gamble than pushing the boat out to make sure we get a couple of players we know can cut it at this level.

We seem unwilling to bring players of stature into the club. Probably cos they need managing.

They might ask awkward questions. Liek why is Togwell on the wing

possibly, but can't afford them anyway.

£100k fee for McCann + his wages. £50k fee (at least)for Mattis + wages

Or one established Championship player. It's all about opinions.

With Devaney suspended, who shouldve played right midfield?

Well he ended up with Mattis on the wing so start with that. Togwell and Howard are THE central midfield pairing. Fit everything else round that.

    Richards not playing

Coulson and Nardiello up front? there's no saying any of the other options we had we're any better.

dont see any other option that stands out as being much better. Togwell has played there before, he's the most versatile it seems. didnt work, but with Richards not playing, Hayes was better up front than any other option. Devaneys suspension illustrates we need cover.

Surely better than Togwell being there?
