Davey was the next Wilson, an unproven manager who built a team from nothing and a few non-league players and managed to achieve great things. But let's be honest it's not going to happen. Like I said I'd love to be proven wrong but from what we have seen of Davey so far he is lacking the most crucial quality needed in management - the ability to motivate players. Wilson had it and even AR had it in getting a bumch of nobodies (bar McPhail - he was a quality player) promoted to the championship. Yesterday should've been the biggest game of the season and the players showed no fight or passion. I am worried.........very worried indeed. S)
Difference Between........ an inexperienced Wilson and and inexperienced Davey is Wilson did it for us as a player and proved himself in the premiership as a player. What's Davey done as a player that makes anyone think he can make a manager ?
What did Mourinho , Wenger , Ferguson , Houllier and Erickson Achieve as players ? It didn't stop them getting some of the top jobs in football . What did Bobby Moore , Bobby Charlton , Geoff Hurst , Stanley Matthews , Ferenc Puskas or Billy Wright achieve as managers , despite being TOP players ? Another point is that Wilson DIDN'T do it for us whilst he was player-coach . It was only after he'd been appointed player-manager than his performances took a major upturn .
RE: What did Mourinho , Wenger , Ferguson , Houllier and Erickson JLWBL - are you suggesting that we might have the next Eriksson on our hands? 'Well-uh.'
I thought I made my point clear and precise Obviously I didn't . I pointed out that it wasn't necessary to be a top player in order to be a top manager . Are you saying that Ericksson didn't have any success in Sweden , Portugal and Italy , both domestically and in European competitions , as a club manager ?
RE: True But Being A Player For Us First And Having Experience In Some Way In The Premiership Helps. No it doesnt. Mouriniho was bobby robsons translator.
Point I Am Making Is........ if you appoint someone without experience from our playing team (like Wilson) then the fans will take to them quicker and accept them faster than someone like Davey who's not played for us.
There's also the conjecture that fans might turn on someone like Wilson very quickly. Hendrie didn't last long before the knives came out, and he was a crowd favourite as a player.
