I want to organise a 'high tea' for my friend & I either Easter Sun or Mon rather than lunch. Anyone any idea where we might get somert half decent in good surroundings wi out going to Holmfirth Castleton or Harrogate. Want tables that are waited wi proper cloths, china & a cake stand for preference not canteen style. Menu to include crustless delicate triangle sandwiches an assortment of cakes or scones wi clotted cream & jam. Proper pot of tea wi milk or lemon and extra water a must
Bread and Dripping in the Thornely Arms Sometimes you get pork pie, brown sauce and pork crackling too. With your sylph like figure you will be able to have an all you can eat session without the slightest impact on your waistline.
Aye 46in waist and 60in hips. Bread & dripping, hot pie & peas weshed darn wi a pint o mild wont hurt that
There's a "tea rooms" in the Arcade - next door to Aroma coffee bar. Though not sure it'll be open the days you want.
Pollyanna too or did have cafe. Like you say not likely to be opened. Have looked round local hotels too but only available to guests.
Just the place Travellers Pogmoor. Young Waiter, they do have a kettle (for tea as oppsed to lager/ beer/ wine), and on Bank holiday weekends, ladies are assured of entertainment beyond their most refined dreams.
Hoylandswaine..... What's the name of that pub, halfway up the hill on the right, as you head towards Penistone? Last tie i was in there there was a rather convivial atmosphere that smacked of laid back. And most of the people present could have entered the 'Darby & Joan' club set. (Y)
RE: Hoylandswaine..... You could be right there mate. I know one of the boozers at Silkstone was the Bonny Bunch O' Roses. A lad by the name of Mark took it over. he used to work behind the bar downstairs in the No.7 in the early 80's and he was a smashing lad. Excellent barman he was. On an occasion i called in to the Bonny Bunch he was behind the bar (maybe late 80's , early 90's?) and we had a great evening in there. ....... Just remembered; the opposite pub from there was the Station Inn..... so it's deffo the Lord Nelson on Hoylandswaine (Y)
