And wakes up in the morning feeling like doing a good deed, myself and Hicksy are currently at the 24 hour McDonalds at Tankersley having ditched my car on the tops and walked for two hours. Merry Christmas - thanks for the performance Barnsley!
We did mate thanks. South Yorkshire Police stopped at McDonalds for coffee so took us five miles back up the road and dug our car out. Finally made it through the door before 5am
say it every year but invest in some winter tyres. Its not an added expense when you run 2 sets and saves money in the long run as summer tyres wear a lot faster when cold. They keep you safe when the conditions get bad like last 24hours but they also out perform by far summer tyres in cold conditions for general driving - braking etc... For £50 a corner on a 16" wheel its silly not to own a set. Glad you both got back safe any road! I had to walk home 6/7 miles from town in trainers last night. Wasn't too bad to be fair as it had stopped snowing by that time and it wasnt cold. Trainers held out and kept my feet dry so was ok although i almost put my walking boots on when i went out for some reason.... Should have listened to my instinct
If Hicksy would have had trainers on for the Chesterfield walk he would have completed it. True story. My car has some kind of winter tyre pack included, but it was at such a standstill on the tops that you were having to plough through thick snow, from a standing start, on a steep hill. All's well that ends well. Might finally get my Boxing Day pint in the Old Number 7 today!
Aye only messing! thats the only downside to winters - you still get stuck behind those without them but if everyone had them on there would be no news stories to write. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's a Mazda 2. I was more meaning because of the sheer number of books I mainly put them in the footwell of the passenger seat anyway.
Some tyre and car companies store the set you are are not using. I know BMW do it because they wrote to me last year inviting me to buy a set, and they would keep my summer ones until I needed them back. But I've got an X3 4wd so the need for winter tyres isn't quite so important as it might be if I didn't drive a tonka toy
I know quik fit have a tyre storage which is about 45. But they also charge about 40 for swapping em over! Best is to have a set of basic winter wheels and swap the lot each year yourself. Then you can just shove the other set in the garage or shed etc... Half way house is national tyres is a lot more reasonable for swapping and you just store the tyres in the shed. I have a set of winter wheels which are smaller and cheaper tyre wise. Can normally pick up a set on ebay in need of new tyres. Then buy the tyres off the tinterweb mytyres.co.uk or get national tyres to price match. Once you have driven on bad roads with them esp snow and ice you wont want to do another winter without em. A lot of the latest winter tyres can be used year round, depending on your mileage and style of driving. i am a low mileage driver approx 6k miles PA and have had Nokian WR3 on for two years with no loss of performance in summer/rain and massively improved in winter. wear is the same as the summer tyres they replaced.
