Just read an article linking him with Celtic and Rangers(wtf!?).

But don't we only get compo if he moves to an English club?

Correct. Didn't the same thing happen to Cardiff (I think) a couple of years ago?

Correct. It's why Oldham fans hate Chris Porter so much, because him going to Motherwell cost their poor club a very tidy sum as a proven goalscorer.

Yup, with Joe Ledley when he went to Celtic

And last summer when a young defender (forgot his name) made the same move. A few years ago, Oldham lost out when Chris Porter left for Motherwell.

The only possible reason he could have for going to scotland would be money - there is no way it will benefit his career
If he cant get signed by a prem club he would be better staying with us for another season or two - sure he could negotiate a reasonable release clause for a prem club if he re-signs

He’ll be a fool, who’s got the money to pay him a big wage. Celtic probably but I can just imagine the Celtic fans if he doesn’t cut the mustard. You sassenach this, you Sassenach that. It'll Do his career wonders that would.

So it'd be better for him to play for Barnsley

As a transfer to either Celtic or Rangers would be a backward move? His career would be adversely affected by regularly playing in Europe and in front of 40 000 to 50 000 crowds? Really?
If that's the case, then yes he would be better staying here, playing in front of 8 000 to 10 000 at Oakwell.:D

Yeah I mean it would be so backwards going to play in Scotland. What with 20k a week, 40-50k crowds, European football, chance to win a some domestic honours etc.

I think it would be actually. Not in the short term, in the short term he'll love it. In the long term I think it would be a bad move because he will be out in the wilderness where nobody really gives a **** about you and where he will largely be ignored. He will be playing in a weaker division than he is now and it will be next to impossible for any English premier league team to truly see how good he is while he's playing against players weaker than Jay McEveley. And he's got no chance of getting into the England set up either.

More money? yes. nice big crowds? yes. any real future hopes of getting BETTER? no.

I will be very surprised if he does go up there. Up north maybe, but not that far..
