Ben Pearson was outstanding for a young lad on his debut.
Mason Holgate was outstanding and looks like he has played first team football for years.

When Ramage went off I thought.......oh heck. We've got a (recently) non-league right back and a rookie just out of the juniors left back. Add to that a Calamity Jean alongside another young lad playing his first game at centre half at this level and we could have been beaten easily by a decent team.

However, the defence were brilliant apart from a few bits of inexperience from Williams and Smith. Big Jean gave us his usual comedy moments at first but then settled into his game and knocked that big centre forward all over the place, and quite deservedly so. But Holgate.......my God, what have we got here??

People drooled about Stones and I was unfortunate enough to be living too far away to see much of him. But this lad is another of the stars of tomorrow line. If (and when) he goes it has to be for a ludicrous fee. Let's start at £10 million and let the fat cats bid for him.

The game was poor first half but we really played some excellent stuff second half. Should have been 4 or 5 nil. Yeovil were a bottom of the league team and looked the part. We had an incredibly inexperienced team out there today but all credit to them. Good to see young Waring get one on his debut and I though Kiwomya looked lively. That run in the first half was lightning quick, but he didn't have the experience to turn round at the end of it and make something.

PS Lalkovic looks the business. He looked marvellous in that Youtube compilation. Just trying to imagine him and Winnall aongside each other

I agree with the choices. And the pleasing thing is you'd kind of expect Ben to be good, being Man U and England etc. But mason is one of our own. He was absolutely superb. Would love to see both here the rest of the season.

Agree. I nearly posted last night that Ben Pearson was guaranteed to be MOM (because it always happens). I didn't cos I thought it would be unfair on him.

He was very good, kept it simple, and contributed to a decenet team performance.

Holgate though - like you, when he had to move into centre I thought "Oh no, Big Jean in charge of 3 kids at the back".

Holgate looks like he's been there forever. Brilliant performance.

I agree, I've just posted the same in another thread.

It certainly would be great to have them both at least to the end of the season. I'm amazed though that we have managed to get Pearson because he is far too good for this level. As for Holgate I wonder what odds u would get on him and Stones as a centre back pairing for England. I never bet but that looks like a sure thing to me

4 or 5 nil? Really? Didn't think we created that much second half and we should have been losing at half time, following Big Jean's blunder. The sending off changed the game completely and made the second half a lot more comfortable, but we weren't 5 goals better than them...

Oh I think we were. Bit more composure in the box and we could have had a bagful against the WORST team at Oakwell in a long while

I saw at least 20 games of Stones and I've seen this dude Holgate about 3 times, so far stones is better, early days obviously, stones plays for England as well, let's not underestimate how good he is.

Holgate's brilliant but Stones' performances were better & he was doing it in a division above against players that go for several million in fees.

I really rate Holgate though, one thing I like about him is he never plays a risky ball, if he does give it away it's always high up the field where there's no danger & he never seems to put our keeper under pressure either which is always a bonus especially on a windy day like today was

Holgate looks decent at right back , but looked diff class at centre back . Hope we tie him to a long contract and build a team round our good young ones coming through

We said exactly the same as you. Holgate must be worth 10 times the value of stones!

We would have to get promoted before even thinking about the same ridiculously low fee we got for stones. I'm looking forward to seeing Holgate develop.

Holgate can't be compared to Stones when he's playing in an easier league. I thought Houriane and Waring were the best players yesterday. Houriane set up the first with the ball into the box, won us a penalty and scored. Waring scores on his professional debut and showed us the type of player we've been missing all season.
