for every true Barnsley fan to pull together it feels like it's now. In addition to the team struggling (and I fully agree that we are) it's breaking my heart that we the fans are so obviously deeply divided. I think it all stems back to the Prem season. Whilst I wouldn't change it (I loved every minute and it'll be a memory I treasure for the rest of my life) I think it's damaged the club ever since. Our period in administration can no doubt be partly attributed to it and expectations amongst fans have been too high ever since - and still are.

Prior to our promotion us supporters seemed to understand that we were a small'ish club who achieved success competing against clubs who were often bigger than us, the fans were united and really got behind the team and the fans and team pulled together to achieve against all the odds. There was a real unity and togetherness on the terraces.

That's the thing I miss most of all right now. That spirit of togetherness (between the team/club and the fans and between the fans as a group) has gone. This message board illustrates it all too well in recent weeks! I've seen it on occassion in recent years - but it's becoming rare.

I don't know the solution but I'd start by encouraging the club to listen to fans and work hard to connect with them again and I'd work hard with supporters groups to try to create unity again. If the current trend continues I worry there'll be more troubled times ahead for Barnsley FC.

    I'm worried about my club.

I dont think so... i think we got rid of that during the davey era... The issue this time around has been hill mouthing off about how successful we are gong to be, how good he is and how much good football we are going to play.

And then we turn out the crap weve seen so far.

The buck stops with Hill IMHO!

He should have managed expectations instead of over inflating them. There is a fine line between delusion and belief.

This was the sentiment of my earlier thread. I don't think it's just happening at Barnsley though - I think it's a nationwide problem.

    Gi' or.

He's said that he's a good manager, his record proves it. He's said it's going to be a challenge but one he's confident of getting right. I don't think he's over inflated anything. It's the fans that have expected more than anything after pre-season performances.

I heard Hill say one issue is that of internet message boards and social networking sights where people give an immediate reaction to results and performances and what immediate responses from the club or words to that effect.

Sorry Keith but it's the 21st century mate.Like it or lump it.

Have you seen the hammer some of the players have had on Twitter? It's barmy. Not what's required.

O'Brien, Wiseman, McEveley, Preece. The ones with the gumption to be on there to make 'em more accessible to fowk and then kids behind a keyboard start abusing 'em. Bang out.

Bet Wiseman's glad he came over.

Agree about abusing them - out of order.

On Wiseman though and after seeing his "post match reaction" he sounds like a Keith Hill stylee mini me.

They need to show us summat on sat. the one point we did grab we got against Notts Forrest looks more like it was the disarray they where in rather than us pulling up any trees.

Its always the same when the club wants our season ticket money the future is bright but as soon as the season starts we get told to either wait until the new batch of world beaters have gelled or just shut up and **** off. It looks like Hill doesnt do small talk ie give us time.

Bit harsh, he sounded gutted and was asked outright a question which he answered. Fowk got monk on at Davey/Robins for saying the same old **** and now gerrin monk on when people are honest. Can't win.

And RE Forest, we played well. Kept ball when we needed to and looked solid. Difference is we weren't under any pressure to take the game to Notts like we have been at home.

    We'll be reight. Sithi.

Saw one message to Butterfield, absolute idiot who sent it, people like that should just crawl under a rock and stay there.

i saw just the 1 bad tweet. the same 1 that Wakey obviously saw to Buttercup. i even tweeted the divvy who did it, saying that what he was posting was going too far, and that Jacob was 1 of our better players.
i also askd fans around me not to boo but got a reaction i dont fancy experiencing again. its a thankless task

You are right Dyson. Difference is, to win football games, you need to get shots on goal that go past the white line between the two white sticks. As it stands, we don't look like we have the ideas to break sides down at home and then they look like they can score at will!

Long time to go though...onwards and upwards

    Agreed

Expectations since the Prem season have been far too high.
