Add a new cup knockout just for the championship, offering free tickets to season ticket holders as a gift for supporting. Name the cup 'Championship Supporters Cup'. This could act as an incentive to buy a season ticket and increase revenue for the club through tv rights and commercial activity. Discounted / Free tickets could also be given on ticket stub numbers otherwise regular price. Final could be played at wembley / cardiff / old trafford etc.... I reckon it could be a good idea with a bit of development.
No 1. Too many competitions already 2. Making it virtually free entry - errr so additional costs to clubs but they won't be able to cover those costs 3. TV rights - assunming the TV stations want it. It was tried with the ZDS cup
Yes Perhaps, with some modifications.</p> The Premiership squeezes in extra games for the European competitions, and this could be a way of creating something credible for the Championship. After all the lower leagues have the LDV etc. Pricing issues could be addressed, but if it took off I'm sure it would be a competition worthy of paying for or televising.</p> I reckon you are ahead of your time mate. The Championship is gaining recognition for good second tier football. Perhaps the time is ripe to enhance that by cashing in on a high profile competition that would attract followers and breed more enthusiasm for Championship mainstream football as a whole.</p>
Let's get back to how it used to be No League/Milk/Carling or whatever name 'they' choose Cup. Season starts 3rd Saturday in August. Two matches a week until the clocks go back Matches on Christmas Day and Boxing Day European Cup to be a KO competition for Champions only Cap on players wages to be 5 times national average wage SORTED
What additional costs???? Make sure that the matches are not night matches for the lighting etc. Tie into some charity as well to get free policing. Surely the income will outstrip the expenses of paying someone to sit on a turnstyle and open the gates and read the scores out! Players wouldn't get any more than they are already paid... What costs are you talking about? I realise that this needs some thinking but I think that we need to refresh the image to the everyday supporter. What better way? People laughed at the idea of a premiership when we had the old structure!!! I remember reading artiles saying that we would never break away from tradition! People also laughed at other suggestions like the light bulb, planes etc.. It only takes a little to prove a lot!
RE: What additional costs???? So there are plenty of blank weekends to play it in then if we aren't using the lights? And exactly when would we be playing at the weekend because once the clocks go back we end up with the lights on at half time - infact we had the lights on last week and it's still August! There are too many competitions - introduce more and you just alienate people and cause confusion....take cricket for example, that many competitions its nigh on impossible to know who the best team are! Scrap the league cup, scrap the LDV, stick with the league and the FA Cup.
It isn't sensible though , it would have no purpose , unless you got promoted if you won it. What would be the benefit of winning the "Championship Cup"</p> Why would you risk your players in it if you were puching for promotion if there was nothing to be gained at the end of it?</p>
RE: It isn't sensible though , it would have no purpose , unless you got promoted if you won it. Sounds to me that you would be happy if they scrapped the league all together!
