Get ready for the red and white striped football shirt appearing all over the TARN district Especially if you live south of the TARN like I do All these supposedly Sheffield United fans who have been born and bred in Barnsley In my view they are worse than SCABS !!! Last year we had to suffer the Wendys going up - this year its the Blunts One season in the premiere will give the Blunts money and support for years to come We go up after next season - they go down after next season They have their fan base boosted and parachute payments We have ???
I can well recall..... Seeing two different people sporting Blackburn Rovers shirts in the taown centre about a week after they had won the Premiership. Bloody galling isn't it?
Yep, I agree, was so called "WEDNESDAY" supporters all over at Wath.... You are right mate, will be Blades fans all over now. Their vermin.
You need to let go of that paranoia mate. The Blades deserve to go up. I doubt it'll see a huge shift in support in town. Those that do probably were those that didn't go to games in the first place. I still see more Man Utd shirts than Wednesday, Blades and Leeds combined. Chelsea and Liverpool are catching up though.
It doesn't mean that they are necessarily gaining more fans in Barnsley, just that those that do live here and support them are more likely to be showing their colours.
Well im a strong barnsley fan, but I cannot guarantee that I wouldnt wear a blunt shirt. I have nothing against the blunts. They deserve to go up, and are the 2nd best team in the championship. I like the shirt, and I quite like the team.
Well done Blades!

"It doesn't mean that they are necessarily gaining more fans in Barnsley" Dad says to young un "nar then, do you want to go to see a footi match on Satdi" "yes dad that would be great" "well we can go and watch Barnsley versus Bournmouth at Oakwell or we can go to Bramall Lane to watch Sheffield United and Liverpool" "lets go to Bramall Lane dad" And another young lad has a team for the rest of his life !!! Its has simple as that Sad but true
Re: "I cannot guarantee that I wouldnt wear a blunt shirt" I agree that they deserve to go up but that's going too far! Go and wash your mouth out with soap!
I agree to an extent And Gordon Shepherd needs to look at the situation and realise that next season we HAVE to price our matches right and we HAVE to offer value for money with shirts.
IT is alright saying that our prices are in line with the rest of the division but you can't ignore the fact that with sheffield united in the premiership, wednesday and leeds in the championship and rotherham and doncaster in the same league all around us we WILL lose fans to these teams and have been doing for years. We have to offer something that the others don't in order to get the casual football fan or the undecided fans into Oakwell.
Price is a major factor, if people know that for the same price they can watch us or can watch chelsea it is obvious who they will choose but if the choice is us or pay more to see chelsea then it is a different matter. Same with shirts, do you buy a premiership shirt or the of a league one team? And the answer is that the casual fan will only buy the less appealling league one barnsley shirt if it is priced lower.

You own a blunts shirt!!! Oh Dear
Well I used to go and watch Liverpool when I lived there as a student, and still look out for their score - but never went as far as buying a shirt - That honour reserved for my true team

Good point SuperTyke........this was put to Gordon at the recent 'do' in Darfield Gordon said that lower prices don't work He cited an experiment at Port Vale where they tried the same thing only to lose a lot of money But with the situation at Sheffield United I think it is worth another look
the problem with his little experiment is That lowering prices by a couple of quid for one game halfway through the season will do very little to encourage people through the gates which is why it doesn't work when it is done.
You will never ever see a shop trial a new idea just once, it will be a trial that lasts one week or a month but never just something that lasts for essentially 90 minutes.
And also it would help if we were to advertise these things. I have heard on radio sheffield several times this season "get down to bramall lane this saturday, its 10 quid a ticket" and every season I hear adverts for sheffield wednesday promoting season tickets. Yet in order to find out about Barnsley promotions I have to already be a fan because we don't advertise. The only way to find out is to buy a programme (that's some good isnt it, in order to find out that I can afford to go to the enxt game I have to have gone to the previous one which i couldnt afford), look on the BFC website (which only existing fans wil do) or read the barnsley fc section of the chronicle (again, only barnsley fans will do).
Barnsley can't keep relying on the loyalty of existing fans because the numbers will always gradually drop, it is a fact of life. These fans will die, move, get other commitments etc and there needs to be a steady stream of new fans being attracted to replace the ones that we lose. As our attendance figures show for the last few years this isn't happening because people can't afford to attend and when we do have a promotion we don't tell anybody that it is happening.

RE: "It doesn't mean that they are necessarily gaining more fans in Barnsley" Well if the father is a Barnsley fan he wouldn't be taking the kid to Sheff Utd....plus they'll probably come close to selling out with season tickets anyway.
"I cannot guarantee that I wouldnt wear a blunt shirt" Eh?! I couldn't wear the shirt of any other English club. Only other club footy shirts I own are Hearts and Deportivo
