Davey has played a dimoned system for a few games and often only plays with one winger, the target should be an attacking creative midfielder with an eye for goal that we have required since Howard left.

Devaney can play on either wing as well so that may be a good call. We are lacking a burst-into-the-box type of player with a bit of composure.

    With....

A 20 goal a season ratio and Blonde hair.

We are crying out for some one with proper Blonde hair. Hassell is the closest thing and he is just an embarassment.

I think we do, we all ways need a plan B. Having width stretches the game and creates space.

Are you wanting us to sign someone from Doncaster Belles?

It's nice to be able to play with two out-and-out wingers, but it's often a luxury that we can't afford, unless we also have both our strongest central midfielders available.

Before this JCR bid I thought we needed 2 strikers, a LB and a LM/winger. If JCR goes we definitely need another. An attcking CM is low down the list of priorities. We have got Colace, Anderson, Hassell and Leon to choose form. We need to get some width back in the side and create through them. A lot of work to be done by SD in the next 2 weeks.

A reckon Geoff Capes would have been an excellent midfielder. nt

Mmm. An attacking CM is low down on our list of priorities? I don't think it should be. We don't score any goals from central midfield and successful sides do.

I'm not sure teams can keep in this league with playing out and out winger unless they put the graft in like JCR and Devaney.
When you get a decent one everyone wants to sign them, I'd like to know what system Davey wants to buy players to fit into.

It doesn't have to be your CM who score goals. If your wingers are chipping in, what does it matter which part of midfield scores? I can't think of any CM in the Championship this season who have scored a lot of goals. Our best midfield is Dev on the right, Colace and Anderson in the middle and JCR on the left. Who do you drop when all are fit? With that midfield and our best back 4 and Muller, we won't lose many games. Strikers are where the burden for goals should lie, so that is the priority. We have no cover at LB or LM so that is next on the list. 3 or 4 players needed before we look at a CM.

The few goals we get from ALL the midfielders - central or otherwise - is only good enough to keep us bobbing just above the relegation zone. The midfield quartet you mention has contributed 6 goals all season. Even if the forwards were doing their job, you need your midfield to chip in with more than that. Every successful Barnsley team that I've watched in the last 30 years has had a 15 to 20 goals player in midfield. Those players were Glavin, Redfearnand Hignett.

I agree that a CM who gets 15 goals can make you successful. But plenty do it without. And having one of those players doesn't always make you successful, Howard last season for example. We need our 4 strikers to be weighing in with 30-40 goals a season. 15, 10, 5 and 5, something like that, not too unrealistic. Then the midfield unit can get 10 between them and the defenders another 5-10. If you hit all those targets you have done enough, especially if the team have looked solid and not let goals in. Surely just replacing Howard would mean we are still a poor Championship side with a CM who scores goals. We can be a better team by getting the strikers right. And getting the pace and creativity back on the wings.

Devaney on the right, Macindoe on the left, Colace and Andersen in the middle, with nippy Hume feeding off some big as yet unknown fella up front.
