Macken hardly had any chances to score whilst he was with us He didn't really look like the goalscorer we so desperately need (although his all round play was excellent). Today, KO had three good chances and missed them all. Two of them were very similar to the ones that Southampton scored from. If we could get that type of service to Mostto maybe he can show us what he is made of.
I don't think our strikers have had very much to work with so far this season. It's not as though they have been spurning chances galore. Arguably, today's game is the most wasteful they have been. Both Ferenczi and Odejayi missed golden opportunities to put the game beyond Southampton's reach. You got to be there to miss 'em as they say. So on that basis, did Kayode have a good match or a bad one? Do you prefer someone like Macken in the team who (until the last couple of games) really didn't look as though he was going to score...
just that......... he played pretty well-just lacked the killer instinct-persevere with him and he'll be fine-AND -don't boo him
Odejayi got himself into those positions He spun the defender, and beat them for pace. Our other striker's can't do that. It's all well saying Macken would have scored them, but he wouldn't have had the pace to get into those positions.
Macken's contribution to the team is far in excess of KO although I would agree he doesn't seem to be a natural scorer however 3 in his last 2 games is better than KO's tally and I don't think his contribution to the team is anything like as good as Macken's.
I also think Macken is better in the air at 5' 11" than KO at 6' 2". I

RE: Odejayi got himself into those positions I don't think I said Macken would have scored them. As a goalscorer, he was pretty ineffective overall (and so is Odejayi for that matter).
I think you were watching a different game to the one Odejaye was watching! The game passed him by, he was dreadful yesterday.
RE: He "could" have had a hat-trick yesterday Yes, any player on the field "could" have had a hat-trick! One on one with the keeper, chance to make it 3-0, and can't even get it on target! He is worse than Nardiello when it comes to standing and watching the game, he doesn't look for space, he doesn't close down the ball and when it's not to feet for him he stands and watches it. He looked good when he first came, but the guy's confidence is shot, and that won't be helped by the idiots who booed him when he was subbed....yes we were saying for him to be subbed, but he doesn't need a chorus of boos like that - he will have known he had a bad game.
Agreed Macken's contribution is in excess of KO's, but some people seem to think that Odejayi doesn't contribute a thing. In my eyes, he's the only striker at the club who can create a chance for himself. All of the others can finish, but it's rare for them to create much for themselves.
RE: He "could" have had a hat-trick yesterday I'm not sure what you mean by that to be honest. "You've got to be there to miss 'em" as they say - don't you give him any credit for that? SD didn't even bother to send Souza forward for most of the free kicks (he even punted one aimlessly forward himself when it was 2-2), so I can't see how he was likely to get many opportunities to score....
Yes you are right I'll give him credit for getting one on one with the keeper and not hitting the target!
At the end of the day... the lad cannot have much faith in his own ability as he hummed and harred over the move to us in the first place. Booing certainly will not help but we cannot afford to miss three glorious chances like he did and hope to do anything. We are already a weaker side with out Macken and De Silva..I hope we can get the pair back in Jan because they are sorely missed.
