Of course they would. People dont loot due to nationality, they loot due to financial and social reasons. What this hurricane shows is the massive socio-economic gaps in US society. Take one look at those doing the looting and it doesnt take a genius to see they are poor folk.
Yes, but...... ...being poor doesn't mean you have to be a wrong 'un does it? That's jude crude stereotyping.
RE: Yes, but...... It's not about being a "wrong 'un" and it's nothing about being poor, if you are in that situation then it's all about survival, money is worth nothing, if you are hungry and without water then you would loot a supermarket. It's the apocalyptic scenario. I cannot believe the pictures on TV, I look at the photos I took 5 years ago when I was there and I can't believe its the same place, it's heartbreaking.
RE: Yes, but...... It shows how engrained materialism is in western society. In the face of such a disaster when there is no electricty and people have no houses some people still want to steal a tv. I mean just look at the absurdity of it. And of course being poor has something to do with it. I didnt see too many rich folk running off with tv's. THey all had the money to get out of the city. The ones left behind simply couldnt afford it as they didnt have transport. Incidentally the N Orleans mayor told everyone to evacuate (very late in the day) but no effort was put ito providing transport to leave the city.
RE: Yes, but...... It's unbelievable to think that in the US they can't get those people out of there, then or now.
An article on the BBC website reads to me like , some of the people stayed behind despite offers of transport in order to do some looting.
RE: Yes, but...... It is, but I think the sheer enormity of what has happened still hasnt even begun to sink in yet and a BBC reporter says that emergency services are simply overwhelmed. The site of people on Fox begging for food and water in the worlds richest country is a tragic irony which really shouldnt be lost. I fear Mr Bush will have a lot of stick coming his way when this is back on some sort of even keel. Have a read of this - http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001051313 There are going to be a lot of angry people.
RE: An article on the BBC website reads to me like , Probably very true. Apparently the shelters on offer didnt take animals and people didnt want to leave them behind, so some stayed.
RE: Yes, but...... My heart did go out to that police officer that they showed on ITV. The one that was crying because whilst trying to help out others he also wanted to call his family to make sure they were still alive.
