I think we'd have got a fourth or fifth and really thumped them. As it was I was very impressed with how the lads played the last 15 minutes out.
yes youve got a good point there, we were totally dominating at the time and i was hoping for a 4th to really clinch it. and by the way, what the heck were they thinking by playing over 7 minutes of stoppages!!
I thought we had too much firepower for them all along. They were dangerous which is why they're second in the league, but we threatened very often.
Said the same at the game, how did they manage to score in that second half? Game should have been buried.
I think you have to give them some credit - they looked a decent side to me and I reckon they should secure promotion. With a bit of tweaking, they will hold their own in League 1. Although it was poor defending on our part to let the cross come over for their second, it was a great header to be fair. Proper bullet from a good 12 yards out.
They managed to score because it was a particularly brilliant cross and a great (unchallenged) header...I agree with the last poster , they played pretty well and looked to me as though they could hold their own next year in L1..with a few additions. We've played and lost to much worse teams than Oxford this season...they did the 4th tier proud today.
Agreed with the first half we weren't at the races and it was a cracking header for their second. I thought their legs had gone second half and they weren't going to keep up the pace they set for the second half, we should have killed it off after we scored the third but we weren't as clinical as we've been on the counter. Fair play to their fans as well, quietest I've heard 32,000. We weren't much better but we found our voice in the second half. Now it's back to more pressing matters
The slight concern for me was that the slow start mirrors how we have played for a few games now. If we want a return trip to Wembley this year then we need second half performances for full 90 minutes in the games coming up, otherwise we won't get away with it enough times to get the points we need. But I am not going to fret about that too much right now. Still buzzing about yesterday, fantastic day.
Don't really agree with that. I thought we created one or two opportunities and caused them problems on the counter attack in the first half - for me it was an even game at half time and I questioned whether they deserved to be ahead. We clearly weren't playing our best football at that point - which was frustrating - but I didn't think they were anything more than well organised and hard working. Our weakness was at left back and they exploited that twice. It was galling in the first half because their number 11 - Macdonald - is a right fatty, but he can certainly cross.
No Oxford United can count themselves unlucky only to be one up at half time. However, heckingbottom proved what a good manager he is be sorting at half time and we played really well in second half
