    This post was first posted by me on the 1st August 2008 before the season 08/09 had started



    Match Day Report
    Barnsley v ************

    Barnsley totally dominated the first period of the match. Chances came and went and Barnsley on several occasions were unlucky not to take the lead. On 21 minutes the visitors had a break away and scored against the run of play. Barnsley again pressed forward after the break but the defence of ************* stood firm. On the hour several attempts by Barnsley went begging. One attempt rolled across the goal mouth and only needed a touch but unfortunatly no Barnsley player was in 10 metres of the ball. The visitors went close twice in the second half but the majority of play again fell to Barnsley.
    At the final whistle Simon Davey said his team had given everything but had been unlucky in front of goal

    Was it? I didn't get a clear view of that. If yr referring to KO, those around said he was backing in to the defender, but they tend to be so biased against KO. I'm sure had it been anyone else they'd have said definite pen.

    I was generalising

    As most games we lose by the odd goal we seem to have a strong penalty appeal waved away

    From where I was sitting at the half way line it looked as though KO was wrestled to the ground - but I honestly wasnt close enough to say if he had fouled the defender first. Ref didnt give them a foul though so he definitely got something wrong

    - Having said that I didnt think the ref had a bad game - that one decision aside we have had a lot worse refs this season

    Cant say the same for the linesman Not sure I understand the offside rule anymore I thought it was when the ball was played that was important not when it was received. Though having watched MotD I am even more confused as to how it works

    That linesman in the in front of the East Stand had a shocker IMO in first half. I'm sure we were on side for the "goal", and the couple of incidents before that. But, I'm sure he had a better view than me. Maybe an instant replay would have proved him right.
